Transportation under $150 a month Challenge
« on: November 04, 2019, 10:58:16 AM »
I've investigated and I spend about $500 a month on transportation (public transit, gas, Ubers).  This is about 7% of my net monthly income.  It's not terrible considering the amount of ground I cover, but I am very interested in starting to bike a lot more, and to get this number down (as well as walk more and lose some weight).  The temperature is getting colder in my area, and this is the time I start to rely on the occasional taxi more and opt for the train ride instead of the bike.

Is anyone interested in this or want to change the amount or percentage?

I'll nibble. Where do you live though that your fares are that high? In Philly if you have a bus/subway pass its like $26 a week. If you piggy back trains add a bit more. Are you in an uber high COL area or do you just love, love, love on that uber?

What is your primary commute method to work?

The subway is usually about $120 a month for me, and then I also take the train to see my boyfriend ($14 peak each way).  Add in any road trips to family and car insurance ($600 per year so not all that much), and the occasional Uber or three and here we are.
