July Running Challenge
« on: July 06, 2013, 04:04:02 PM »
Hi, folks. I didn't see a spreadsheet for July, so I've gone ahead and started a new one:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ag4s7HPcOY9hdFBkTFR3c0xGd1RLUE92NUdpM1dvWUE&usp=sharing

Have a fun July (and stay safe in the summer sun)!

Thanks! I was out of town last week and forgot to make a new spreadsheet.

Yeah, I figured people were probably on holiday or the like.

I also took the liberty of chaining together all the spreadsheets to make it a little easier to track progress over time (I hope I didn't break any rules!). Unfortunately, I couldn't find the one for February. I have a feeling it may have been cannibalized for the May challenge? If anyone really wants it, I think it's still available in the May revision history.

Anyone have any runs they're participating in this month? I've got an 8K on the 27th that I'm looking forward to.

No July races for me.  Still training for the December marathon.  Looking to add a half marathon sometime in October.  I had one picked out, but plans changed, so now I'm looking at a couple of different ones.  I can't decide if I want the flat, fast course or the hilly, challenging one.

I'd like to set a PR, and the marathon is goint to be a pretty flat course, so I'm leaning towards the flat one.  The other one has a cooler medal and better shirts though.  Decisions, decisions...

Tough choice... The good news is that you always have next year to pick the one you don't do this year! :-)

Signed up for the Cherokee Harvest Half Marathon on 10/19.  It's the one that I thought was a hilly course, but a different elevation chart shows it as pretty flat with only one disgustingly large hill about halfway through.  Only $40 to register, and that gets me a hoodie and two race shirts.  Not bad.

Nice! That sounds like a great deal for a half-marathon. I'm actually kind of surprised they're able to turn a profit on that, with the swag, road closures, setup, etc...

Good luck on the race!

I have a hard time figuring out how they make any money either, but I guess they do.  The accompanying 5K race will subsidize the half marathoners a little bit, but they must have either really strong support from local government or some generous sponsors to pull it off and still make a donation to local charities.

Absolutely. Please join in if you're interested. The miles don't really count towards anything, but it's a nice way to keep motivated. Just follow the instructions at the top of the spreadsheet.
