Those times are very few and far between. And they even manage to be pissed off by the wins. I don't know how they haven't exploded from the pressure.

I really hate the Investopedia system. It keeps screwing me on trades. Like today, I submitted an order to purchase puts at market price and it never filled it. The stock is currently down 20% after hours. It's a market order! It should always execute on a decently liquid stock. Usually I would have a limit order, but this damn system doesn't fill orders so often I just wanted to make sure it would go through. So I missed out on $20,000 worth of gains so far. And to make things worse, I bet it's going to fill it tomorrow when the put prices skyrocket, so I'll possibly lose money on the damn thing instead of being way up.

I get that it's a free service, but if you're going to have a system it should be able to fill orders. It's really not that hard.

If you can find something similar that is better, we can switch to it for MMM Contest 3, after MMM Contest 2 is done

Even though it's after hours, it still won't let me cancel the pending trade (which I submitted an hour before the market close). Looks like it's going to force me to buy the puts tomorrow--but at 4x the price when I submitted the order.

I'm doing so terribly that I think this game might actually cure me of stock-picking forever. Even though I only ever do it "for fun" with a small amount of money.

Ya, I tried to buy apple at 93 about a week ago or less, and I got it for 96 instead, and now it's at 89. Huge loss. I also just bought some Lending Club and it has been continuing to drop

Yeah, I bought both of those too.

For $5 I'll warn you in advance about which stocks I'm going to buy so you can short them...

Hopefully some of your holdings have come back since 11AM was just about the low of the day!

I was planning to sell GOOGL, on the pullback to the opening price, but now I'm thinking of adding some ahead of the tech conference next week.

BTW, Noticed you like concerts!

I bought lending club too cause it was at a 52 week low lol.  I guess now its at a 52 week low-er.

Also I think this has opened my eyes to the need for diversification.   Right now in real life, I'm all US equities (Through low cost index...).   I really think I'm going to sit down, develop a good IPS that has good diversification with INTERNATIONAL exposure and stick to it.     My current allocation of 100% US equities seems very foolish now.

I don't think it's fair to say that if one stock does bad, that a fund with thousands of diversified stocks is not safe. The thousands of stocks might not be 100% safe, but the correlation between that and 1 stock doing bad are so low that they shouldn't be considered together.

http://jlcollinsnh.com/2012/09/26/stocks-part-xi-international-funds-2/
You have some international exposure already, you could add more if you like though.

Seems like the rankings are stuck again. Still showing 5/11. Hopefully Investopedia doesn't need a reminder every single time to update.

My portfolio is actually up today! And my annual return is all the way up to -83% after a stock jumped 13% and I sold it to lock in some profit. Good thing this challenge is only a few months. I won't have time to lose all my money.

Now what should I do with the cash from that sale. Maybe I'll buy more LC, surely it's at it's real 52-week low by now ;-)

That is a good move, not because I think they are a good company, but because I sold it just now and that means it will probably shoot right up.

Hope you sold it to lock in your gains. Down 8% right now after the DOJ announced an investigation.

I'm feeling pretty darn good about myself for selling my real-life Lending Club shares in the 20s. :-D

After logging in to find one of my stocks plunged 15% this morning, I'm starting to think I should just sell everything and hold cash, just because it's probably the only way to stop my account hemorrhaging money...

LC has been on quite the roller-coaster ride. Up 11% today.

1st at last (Nonfinity). Thanks for going away on vacation.

Man this seems easy. I must be a genius. Who wants to give me all their money so I can start up a hedgefund?

I'll only charge 2.5% of total assets for the first thousand takers.

Hello Jeremy, thanks for setting up the contest. Looks like it's a tight race!
I had a look at the winner's portfolio recently and it looks like they are doing a lot of UWTI/DWTI betting - they are good at it.

no problem bud, I consider myself a good investor because I invest in total stock market index funds.... But it seems some people are doing well with picking the right stocks in this contest.

It's a little easier to pick stocks that go up when the market is going up.

The limitations of the system are a little irritating. The commissions are pretty expensive and you can't go short options (such as covered calls). And the system seems to be slow to trade. Maybe they are using delayed data. And you have limits on how much of something you can own or trade in a day. If you're a stock picker, you'd be very limited by the inability to capitalize on something really undervalued. And having to do the trades over multiple days increases commissions.

I got hammered pretty ahrd when I sold on thursday. Today almost made up for it. Wondering if I want to stay short for tomorrow.
