If you haven't watched this yet it is worth it.  Puts everything in perspective I think.  At the end of the day for me FI is just about the ability to spend more time with the people I love.  That's my goal now too.  Relationships are so much more than money.  I cried for Zach and his family, but I also thought they were pretty lucky to have each other for the time they did.

You don't have to know you're dying to start living.

I have felt this quite acutely this year, when someone I knew also passed from cancer. And it's one of the reasons why I would like to take a sabbatical, even if it will delay FI.

Yes.  I think this is what I need to work on these days.  I like "optimization" and FI and these things come easily to me.  Where I lack is social connection outside of my family and a few best friends.  While this has been enough, I think I can do better by focussing more on what makes the people I love happier and making it happen... and then extending out further from my comfort zone.
