The cake I made yesterday turned out good in spite of having to substitute some ingredients.

I had a nice time at my daughter's tee-ball game tonight. It's amazing how much her team has improved since the start of the season.

I'm grateful that DH and I have a good relationship, and DH tries really hard to be a good dad to DD. There are so many broken, hurting families around us these days.

Landlord had a pallet of fencing delivered today, and the forklift could not get up our narrow driveway. Even though he was grumpy about it*, BF helped move the materials to the backyard without further complaining and without me asking for help.

*He's right, we shouldn't have to move hundreds of pounds of materials for the landlord for free.

It's been a super rocky week or so (finals week for our child with a bunch of school challenges, & trying to sell a vacation house.) In happiness news, we got a full price offer on our house within the 7 day window the realtor thought was likely. It's possible we could have gone a bit higher & negotiated, and/or waited a bit longer, but I really need this off my plate, & we raised the price twice before we went live. So, we are officially under contract!

Double bonus - the buyers are purchasing the house "turn key", which means I don't have to figure out what to do with all of our stuff! I'm very happy the stuff is staying with the house. We furnished it really well for a vacation style/beach house & it all fits together nicely. Now someone else can enjoy all of that.

Lovely day hiking, trying out some new hiking poles my SO gifted me.
we didn't see anyone until after reaching our lake destination (then the only person up there was a solo hiker, talking loudly to himself to alert bears of his presence) :)

That's hilarious!

I had a nice run today. 6.7 miles without walking or stopping. Started off a bit slow and rocky with my stomach but got more comfortable as I went. My running app says my time actually got faster with each subsequent mile (perhaps because the first couple were uphill!).

While it's a common practice he was really going for it
(I initially thought it was a group of hooligans and when we ran into just one person, hollering out a gibberish language I initially thought perhaps he was on drugs and our gentle dog backed away from him very slowly) Ha, poor guy. He seemed happy to see other folks and it IS a legitimate concern/a very bear-y zone.

Had an online 'poetry jam' with two friends last night.
It was so much fun, playing word games, reading out poetry that we have recently discovered...

Here is the one that I shared

@MaybeBabyMustache congrats! Awesome outcome.

Today I went to a new optometrist and she was very nice. Her office was close to the store where I had to do a return. That store was close to a Starbucks, and it was double star day. So I got a treat *and* took care of errands. 😄

Had a proper grownup night out with a dear friend. We had a delicious dinner and wine at a beautiful restaurant, then went to a concert at the local theatre which was packed to the gills. It was  absolutely brilliant: every single person got up out of their seats to sing along and dance for 2 hours. We are so very lucky to be able to do this now in my part of the world. So not frugal, but that is why I save money!

Saw a movie with a friend and we had post-delicious cake walk around a park which had multiple groups of picnicers enjoying the afternoon, dogs and kids and frisbees galore. It was glorious seeing everyone so relaxed and happy and it felt like exactly what a park is for.

Nice to read the reflections here :)

I was in an afternoon slump. A real doozy of a slump and somehow got myself outdoors to read, then the sun rejuvenated & overheated me so I went down to the lake for a swim. It ended up being a total reset. Chatted with some folks on the dock and enjoyed an icy dunk.

It reminded me that sometimes getting off the bed *even if I'm not feeling like it* is a really good option!

My daughter had her end-of-the-season tee-ball party today. It was the first non-family party either of us had been to in well over a year, and we both really enjoyed it. They had enough outdoor kid activities that the kids could entertain themselves while the parents hung out, which was fantastic.

I like the members of my orthopedic surgery team that I've met so far, and they have a lot of experience with my specific condition.

New doctors is always a pressure point for me, because I have a condition that few doctors are familiar with and those who are are usually misinformed. And in Canada, you can't shop around for specialists. You get who you get. The system won't pay for second opinions, and the system is the only payer, so I can't even pay out of pocket.

Anyhoo, it's a HUGE relief that they readily understood my condition and knew exactly why I refused one of the tests the first fellow recommended. He went back and spoke to the big boss, who is one of the top world experts on my injuries, and the big Kahuna totally agreed with me, and it was a productive learning experience for the fellow.

This NEVER happens.
Normally when I meet a new doctor it's an enormously stressful process of me desperately trying to protect myself from them doing something that's dangerous. Hoping that they'll actually be able to do something to help me is usually a fantasy that I don't bother engaging in.

This team may or may not be able to help me, and there's a solid chance that they make me worse, but the amazing thing is that they actually KNOW that's a distinct possibility, and that for me is pure luxury.

I LOVE just being able to just trust experts to do their jobs properly.
Hey mal, I was just going to ping you to say thanks for having my back on another thread...and then I stumbled on this post. Such awesome news! I hope this new medical team continues to have your back. You richly deserve this kind of support.

Thanks D.

Ultimately I'm just hoping to not have surgery, but I'm happy to have a team that might actually understand why when I already can't walk very well.

My happiness today is that although I can no longer take long walks, I can still comfortably ride my e-bike, so I'm still able to get out almost every morning along the river. I don't like it as much as a long walk with a good audiobook, but it's a great consolation prize, and the e-bike makes me feel like I'm not disabled, which is amazing.

Found a useful place for a table I'd gotten free from the curb, moved along with all my stuff at the end of Feb, then let sit outdoors mostly unused. Very happy to have removed the nagging sense of "clutter" and also filled a need for a tabletop indoors!

I've been pretty stressed & anxious lately, due a bunch of life things. I made the time to do yoga this morning, & not only did it feel amazing in the moment, unsurprisingly, it helped me feel more relaxed overall. I feel so much "lighter" after a yoga workout.

@MaybeBabyMustache I never regret the yoga or the weights (I sometimes regret the running)

My happiness was discovering that there was going to be a super blood moon eclipse last night and then getting to see it during our last dog walk of the night. It was splendid.

@mspym - I never regret the yoga or running. I sometimes regret the weights, when I'm quite sore after. Generally, I sometimes have to convince myself to work out, but never regret it. I always leave feeling better than I started, and how many things in life can you say that about?

Have been feeling un-motivated around household chores recently, but made myself sit down and do some mending while watching Youtube. Made me so happy to rescue these two garments which are staples in my wardrobe! Maybe even enough to turn around my motivation issues. :)

I saved my mom's life yesterday.

It's a long complicated story, but she was convinced that she would be fine and I was convinced that she was in a life threatening situation and needed an ambulance immediately.

She's now down a kidney, but she's alive because I'm the one person in her life who doesn't bend to her iron will.

@Malcat - so glad you were able to get your mom the help she needed.

For me, I used two zucchinis from our garden & made the most delicious muffins. I'm not sure if I can replicate them again, as I tweaked the recipe quite a bit to accommodate tastes & preferences, but they are amazing! No waste with our zucchinis, and delicious muffins.

Oh yeah, she definitely is. I'm also the only medical professional in the family, so when I say "you could die", it tends to be taken seriously.

Today's happiness is five-fold:

1) Purchased a used shed (yay environment)
2) from a friend who is downsizing (yay helping others).
3) It all fit in my car (yay Tetris skills proving their worth).
4) I unloaded and assembled it the same day (take that, procrastination habit),
5) and BF offered to and then promptly helped me (yay SO's who are not like my ex!)

Really excited about this short film project I'm working on. A spinoff from documenting making my art that ended up being a collaboration with a musician neighbour and....it's turned into a very involved, personal project and extension of ideas I've been working with for a few years. [was excited last night into insomnia but oh well, worth it]. Submitting a draft to an architectural film festival tomorrow. Unlikely to be accepted as the material I'm working with may not do well full-screen, but this process has been an incredible learning experience and will be useful in future.

I fixed my leaking outdoor faucet today. It was so easy I'm kinda embarrassed I didn't do it sooner, but I'm happy to have it done and happy I didn't need a plumber.

My neighbor brought us cookies today as a thank you for bringing her eggs. Some other neighbors brought us a plant a couple weeks ago for the same reason. My neighborhood has it flaws, but the sharing and exchanging between neighbors makes me happy.

It is sunny and windy so perfect line-drying washing weather.

I have 6 new library books to read.

Every time I go to the library, I'm reminded of how much I love libraries. I have 39 books checked out right now! (mostly for my kids, who go through books much faster than I do). That includes a couple e-books, and a pile of books I returned that haven't been checked in yet, but still - how amazing is it that I can check out 39 books, for free, no questions asked?

It's over 100 degrees here, and there were a few people who seemed to be in the library mostly for the A/C. It makes me happy that people have a safe place to hang out without pressure to spend money - there aren't a lot of places like that.

-My son was able to improve his grades (high school ends tomorrow), just within the window. COVID & the combo remote/in person was really hard for him, so this is making me incredibly happy. All classes were passed!
-Picking things out of the garden. It's such an unexpected treat (I'm not very good yet, so it's all a surprise). So far, radishes, kale, spinach, carrots, zucchini, mint, cilantro, basil, tomatoes. Peppers up soon.
-The weather has been cool enough to run in the mornings, but gorgeous during the day. I love this time of year

Ooh, @oneday - well done! I'm happy on your behalf. I love a pantry spreadsheet!

For me, I met a friend at our son's soccer practice (she was also taking her son) & we were able to walk twice this week. I love combining a social & physical activity into a chore. Normally, I don't enjoy the practices, but it's so much more fun & enjoyable when you have something to look forward to.

We rescued some tadpoles a while back from a puddle that was drying up. They've finally all turned into frogs. I think we got two different species because some were medium sized and others were teeny tiny, like the size of a dime. They're so cute! They're hopping around my yard now so they'll probably all get eaten by my chickens, but at least they lived longer than they would have in the puddle.

Two lovely, social days in a row .One with 2 friends at the local brewery for beer and board games (so close to home so I walked) followed by visiting the library on the way home.

This morning I met up with an old work friend - we meet 29 years ago! - with whom I had lost touch. She has coincidentally moved to the same area I moved to. We went for a long walk and got coffee  and talked for 2 hours, and have planned to do it again in a fortnight. Now I am exhausted from all the Extroverting and will spend the rainy afternoon in bed with a book.
