@oneday clean PJs! That's the best!

My happiness today is E coming over to give us banoffee pie and walk Honey while we are in isolation. What a champ this kid is.

Setting up my schedule for the summer in ways that feel sustainable and life giving.  With room for adventures but also so I'm able to make enough money to pay bills and save a bit too (Already have way more planned than the last two years have allowed so that is both exciting and mind-boggling)

It was also nice to have an expectedly high tax bill but not feel overly stressed about it. Just having the knowledge that I can take care of all these things is a real soul-soother.

Lunchtime walk with BF in a park, but also two errands done. Thanking past-me who arranged 1.5 hour lunches 3 days a week back in November. Especially since it's overcast now, and was sunny for the walk.

Putting my thoughts down "on paper" today really helped me clarify a few things. But also showed me exactly where I'm still struggling to understand. The insight is peaceful.

Spent a while weeding the garden - the sunshine and fresh air were just what I needed. Found an oregano plant that I didn't know I had. Then had a nice conversation with my grandma.

Scored a bag of fresh bread yesterday! There were only 16 available to be delivered to my compound, but my coworker was in charge of the group purchase, and she gave us first dibs. It will be hard to get fresh food over the next several days as most food deliveries to my housing compound has been halted, so I'm grateful to have this bread as we will likely not have much access to any other food besides what is already in our home.

Returning home after a fun and productive week away with no end_of_holiday gloom or back_to_the_grind blues. I'm still free. I can still do whatever I want - all day - every day. The "holiday" has not ended.

Retired ~22 months now and in some ways it's become normal, but I still get a big kick from the fact that "going home" only includes the good bits about "going home". It just means the start of more good stuff AND I'm back in my nice home !

Had a wonderful hangout with a dear friend at a spa (*free* b/c we both had expired coupons which the business honoured) so we enjoyed sauna-ing, cold-plunges, hammocks, lounging, etc ..all in the early morning sunlight (and double happiness since the weather forecast had predicted rain).

Nice friends add so much to the happiness of life.

I spent a while this evening sitting in the yard reading and enjoying the beautiful weather. A hummingbird flew up and hovered in the air for several seconds, close enough that I could hear his wings beat, looking right at me.

I was out with my bike (Bertie) and we were travelling down a fairly narrow country lane. The sky was blue and the road was lined with hedges on both sides protecting us from the wind (weather not me). Suddenly a bird swooped down into the lane below the level of the hedges. It obviously didn’t feel it could now go left or right because of the hedges and so it just followed the lane. The bird flew at my head height about five yards ahead of us. It literally followed the lane for about 100 metres or so before it realised it could fly up! As we were on a slight downhill during these 100 metres, Bertie and I were cycling at exactly the same speed as the bird was flying.

To anyone watching (sadly no one) it was as if the bird, bike and human were all together as part of the same group making their way down this lane. I suddenly felt like a Disney character or Dr Dolittle or someone.

The sheer joy I felt was indescribable although was slightly hampered by the concern that if the bird chose to do its business during this time then I’m getting it full in the face at 25mph! Thankfully that didn’t happen and the joy wasn’t soured by such an unfortunate turn of events. I thank the powers that be for not ruining this moment for me.

I’m glad you enjoyed it Ladychips. It was amazing to follow a flying bird so closely for so long. It was so effortless and graceful and I could hears its wings flapping. It was the epitome of freedom.

Today I discovered that my new recipe for cream of shiitake mushroom soup tastes almost EXACTLY the same as the mushroom soup I love at one of my favorite soup and sandwich restaurant. Sadly, I have not eaten at that restaurant for over 8 years because it's on the other side of town, and restaurants here are constantly shutting down. I have now discovered their tasty secret! The secret ingredients are Italian seasoning, soya sauce, and sesame oil!

Read an update from the resort management office about all the upgrades they're making to the resort where we own a cottage. It will be so awesome when we can return to Canada and spend time (months!) at the cottage.

Filled up my arms with library books:  gardening, brain-science and drawing. Such a fulfilling feeling...(and free!)

We went skiing yesterday and ran into two friends just as we were about to go up the lift so ended up skiing with them which meant we stayed out for much longer than we would have on our own. The snow was great --felt like mid-winter conditions and it's almost May!

Another member of the drop-in group I was planning on participating in today reached out to let me know that they were the only other one there. We mutually decided not to meet just the two of us.

Was nice of them to reach out; they could have just vacated the meeting point and I would have never known. They know I have a longer commute than just about anyone and they were trying to save me the trouble.

It's nice that they took the time*.

*This is a person who is not my cup of tea and has displayed some mildly unsavory behavior, but it's nice that even though we aren't bosom buddies, they made the effort to show caring. A good reminder that just because a person sometimes behaves less than their best, it does not mean they are a bad person.

I got a bunch of egg cartons from a woman in my Buy Nothing group. She dropped them off to me, so I gave her a dozen eggs as a thank you.

Maybe it's because I don't get out much, but pleasant interactions with strangers have felt really meaningful lately.
