Today I did an hour CC skiing, partly through deep snow on narrow skis, which is not a good idea.

Yesterday I did some exercises for my back. And took a day of rest from skiing.

I was little motivated to go outside. But when walking to the grocery store yesterday, I noticed that there are large patches of bare asphalt and only ice on certain places. So today I put on running clothes first thing in the morning and waited until it was above 0˚C. That was after lunch. I ran until I was a little warm and found myself a hill free of ice. I just ran intervals unhill as fast as I could. A total of only 35 minutes, including everything. According to my pulse clock I was in zone 4 for 21 minutes, so I guess it was a bit effective.

I walked to a grocery store via a detour. Most of the road was bare, some of it still icy. One my way back, uphill with a backpack full of groceries.

Today I walked 4 miles, sprinted until max heart rate:

30x curls
30x dumbbell chest press
60x deadlifts

Was going to do dumbbell shoulder presses but just ran out of energy. blah.

Yesterday I only cleared snow. Today I cleared a bit of snow and we went CC skiing in fresh snow and prepared trails, about one hour and 10 minutes.

jealous of @Linea_Norway's snow and cc skiing.  It's cold (40F) and windy here, so no beach walking this week.  Still keeping up daily yoga, but I miss the outside walks.

Today we made another CC trip in an area we don't know so well, still close to home. It was a lot uphill from the parking place, but at the end it was nice, over a swamp. The way back was easier with a lot of downhill and perfect snow conditions.

Went for a short 5k skate ski the other night with my SO. It was nighttime and overcast so we were skating largely on feel and intuition as there was little to no light. We only fell once each!

Would have brought headlamps if I had been better organized. Oh well, it was still an interesting experience.

I seem to have turned the corner on my Achilles injury. We’ll see how it handles an increase in running volume now.

Yesterday we CC skied for more than an hour. A different route than we normally do for a change. Good circumstances for zero skies.

Today I had another CC skiing trip on very soft snow, as it is quite warm. Still good tracks, but in some places (in the shadow) icy and fast. And in other places (in the sun) you get sucked into the snow and don't glide much. Still, it was nice to be outside in a very quiet trail. I was on my own for a change and then CC skiing doens't turn into a heavy interval training.

Today one and a half hour of walking at a good pace, especially the first half that goes uphill. It wa# a bit depressing weather, but I listened to an interesting podcast, which made it feel more meaningful.

I've been doing CrossFit since December.  Disclaimer: I don't think Crossfit is optimal for strength development, but for me personally, it's the best solution for getting my lungs healthy again.  Lifelong asthma.  Well controlled for many many years, but very poorly controlled for the past couple of years, especially since getting Covid.

Been using my rescue inhaler 4-5 times/day since then.  Before bed.  Waking up at night using it due to SOB(shortness of breath).  Again when waking up.  And multiple times throughout the day.  I'd get 3 rescue inhaler refills at a time and they were empty in no time.

I'm not a fan of cardio.  Definitely not into running slowly for a long time, and don't think that is very healthy anyways.  I like the high intensity of Crossfit.  The structured classes are what I need to *force* me into a rigorous cardio routine.  At first, it was terrible.  My lungs would literally hurt, painful, the entire evening and into the next day.  It was horrible.

Now, it's much better and just sucks.  But, I can push myself pretty darn hard, and 10 minutes after the workout, my lungs feel good, normal.  I'm going all day without using my rescue inhaler at all.  My lungs WILL COMPLY WITH MY DEMANDS TO GET HEALTHY AGAIN!

I don't know for sure what the time frame will be, but I'm hoping that another 3-4 months will start to bring my cardiovascular capability in line with my physical/strength capability.

Currently doing MWF for an hour, and will be working in some dedicated strength training a couple times/week since I really miss being as strong as I used to be before COVID.

Another missing ingredient is diet......I've come to realize that I can't effectively slim down without tracking calories carefully.  Today will hopefully start dedicated tracking and 1-2lbs/week of weight loss.  199 lbs at 5'8"

Can still back squat 350-400 lbs, and deadlift 450-500(haven't tested recently), but I'd love to get those numbers to 500 and 600 before I get to old to do so.

For the whole week I have had pain in my lower back. Therefore I have been doing yoga stretches the whole week after taking a painkiller. The only excercise that hurts a lot is the "downward facing dog".

Yesterday I made a little ski trip, about 5 km, on my mountain skis, just to check if my back liked that. Well, it did. Much better than the day before when we road in the car for 5 and a half hours.

As my back seemed to improve from skiing, we went on a planned long skiing trip, over a mountain, crossing a big lake, and some kms through a forest to a tourist cabin. In total 24 km. We stayed the night there. The trip was longer and more challenging than we had anticipated, so we decided to not continue to the next cabin, but return home. And today we went back using another route over the same mountain, this time 23 km or so. We saw a lot of raindeer* this time. It was good that we went back today, as my feet are a disaster with blisters. And I am tired. I think we realize we are older now and that this type of thing costs a lot. The other thing was that yesterday, it was very hot (around 0˚C, I think) and we should have had a lot more to drink. Today it felt better, there was sun, but it was colder.

*For the foreigners: Those raindeer are not completely wild, but managed by Sami people. But they are eating the "raindeermoss" on the mountain plateau under the snow.

We did another small CC skiing trip, only 5 km. My back was worst than before this morning. I do yoga stretches every morning and today there were several excercises that hurt a lot more than the days before. After skiing, my back was much better. I can now get off the couch without pain. During skiing I just had a very sore back of my right arm, maybe from falling a couple of times with a heavy pack on my back on the long trip. Just using ski poles hurt.
When we came back from skiing, I transported a couple of sacks with wood on a sledge. That was painless. DH put them in place in the shed for me. I guess I need to go out for another light skiing trip later today.

Today only half an hour CC skiing, because it was very difficult to wax it. I used zero skis and I got snow stuck under the grip part every time I stepped outside the prepared trail. DH on red wax was either not having grip, or having snow stuck under the wax.

Two days ago, ran one mile, walked four miles, did 60x bar curls, 30 x dumbbell shoulder press, 30x bench press

Yesterday walked five miles, did 60 x squats.

Feeling kind of sore today so probably won't do much outside of walking four miles. I might do some push ups if I'm feeling up to it.

It is nice outside, and to celebrate I spent an hour picking up rocks from the side of the house. 3 buckets of rocks. They were much easier to carry too.

Yesterday it was not raining, unlike the rest of this week. I hiked outside for 6 km, with a good pace in the uphill halfpart. And I did yoga excercises.

At Easter Sunday we went on a kayak trip, the first in the season, in very nice weather. Since then I have a pain in the backside of my right upper leg. I tried to use my feet to push up my hip to paddle more effective. But it has bothered me a couple of times a day this pain. It kope it will go over soon.

On the 14th: one hour hiking.

For the previous three days we went kayak paddling in an area with islands along the coast, in the south of the Oslo fjord. Two days 15 km, the last day more like 6-7 km.

Today I hiked for one and a half hour and combined it with collecting a package and shop groceries.

I definitely felt those squats for a few days.

I ran two miles today through hilly wooded trails.

I don't even recall the last time I ran two miles on the trail, so it was way more challenging for me than it would be for most people, I think.

In the last weeks I have paddled in a kayak a couple of times. I also walked outside through a bit of forest on my walk in the neighbourhood. It is more ormless snow free now, at least it is very easy to walk there now.
Foraging season has started, which means that I get terribly distracted every time I notice an edible weed, or a interesting springtime mushroom. So I do get outside, it is just not going so fast anymore.

Yesterday: 4 mile walk, 50 pushups
Today: 1 mile street run, 40 goblet squats with the kettlebell (in a row this time instead of my usual sets of 20), 30 inclined dumbbell presses, 10 vertical dumbbell presses.

Was going to do more but...ran out of energy. I really need to work on my upper back and shoulders more.

110 goblet squats with the kettlebell today. 4 sets of 25 and a final set of 10.

Will probably feel that tomorrow. Geeze. Definitely not running today....

Still trying to focus more on my upper back and shoulders also...but not today.

I should probably start doing sit ups again also. I have a flat stomach now but my ab definition is very limited....*makes mental note*

FWIW - how visible your abs are has nothing to do with how much you exercise your abs.  At least for me, it all comes down to body fat percentage.  At about 15% my abs start to look awesome . . . and at 10% they are looking ripped.  This has always been true - even doing zero ab exercise at all.

I always say I have six pack abs, but they're just behind the keg.

Seriously- this is just not an attainable goal for postmenopausal women who have borne children.  I aim for functional fitness, not Sports Illustrated Cover model.

Went in a 20 mile bike ride yesterday with some friends.

This is pretty big for me because:
A.) I have not ridden my regular bike in 2 years (ebike way more fun)
B.) I have never ridden a bike this far in my life
C.) It was a el cheap mountain bike, and my friends were decked out in multi thousand dollar road bikes and bike gear. We were only going about 2 mph less than their normal pace due to my slowness.

So now I'm in the market for an el cheapo road bike or gravel bike...

If you're planning to go on hilly/mountainous rides, a road bike will be lighter and you'll go faster because of this.  If you just want to hang with faster people on mostly flat areas though, it's all body position.  You might want to try some clip on aero bars.  The lower position should let you keep up just fine.

Then after you've developed a bit of a habit you'll have a much better idea of exactly what kinds of things you're looking for in a bike.

Thanks! Good to know.

It is a flat surface, and I have slicks/road tires on my mountain bike already. So if I have some clip on aero bars I should be able to change my body position. I didn't even know that was an option I had, lol. 😂

I have always wondered what percentage of the resistance is due to aerodynamic drag vs rolling resistance when biking.

Anyway - thanks for the advice.

Rolling resistance is always there, but it's generally pretty linear.  Aero drag is kinda exponential at higher speeds . . . so if you're just moseying along at 15 kph aero is hardly noticeable.  If you're cooking at 40kph, aero is eating almost all of your power so differences to body position are very noticeable.

Ran two miles - trail running on dirt, through hilly terrain
100 goblet squats with new, heavier kettlebell.
Walked 3 miles on flat surface

Everyday is leg day now, lol. 😆
