Get Fit with Exercise! Was-->100 Pushups + 200 Situps. Join Me!
« on: November 11, 2013, 07:49:12 PM »
Over the next six or so weeks, I am aiming to reach a goal of 100 situps and 100 pushups.

200 situps info:
http://www.twohundredsitups.com/

100 pushups info:
http://www.hundredpushups.com/#sthash.AjJwvs6l.dpbs

I first started with using the website and then I downloaded the app. I am not an "app person," but this one makes it easy to track progress.

Also, I am feeling badass. I did enough pushups to jump into week 3 so maybe I will reach the pushup goal sooner than I thought.

Anyone want to join me?

My bucket list seriously has this entry: "Do one push-up."

So, before I die, I'd like to do one proper push-up.

Clearly I will not be joining you in this challenge :-p

I don't have a smart phone to download the app, but I'm with you on the final goal of the challenge.  These items have been on my bucket list, so now seems as good a time as any to work on crossing them off.

+1 for the bucket list (which I just posted over here, y'all should share yours too!), both situps and pushups, oddly enough in the exact number in these programs even though I don't remember seeing them...

Now's as good a time as ever. Count me in for just the pushups to start. I'll do the test tonight and report back

also inb4 "high reps r dum"

Nice! I actually just started both of these programs to get in shape for the Air Force PT test. Though I only need to be able to do upper 50s of each in one minute to get full points on those parts of the test. Currently finished week 1 and the pushups seem to be going well. Struggling on my last set or two each day with the sit ups. May need to repeat a week but hope to push through.

You don't even need a smartphone. You can do it via the website, which is what I did when I did the challenge before (had to quit the first time due to a health issue).

So I tested into week 3, not having done any excercise over the past few months save for a few burpees every day. I used to not be able to do 20... consider me pleasantly surprised!

Now's as good a time as any to start! You can do the program with "alternative" pushups instead!

Dude--I can totally do wall pushups. I do them in the shower sometimes.

If you guys are cool with my wimpy wall pushups, I'll play along.

In my pre-Mustachian days, I had this thing called a gym membership and I used it often.  I started lifting free weights at age 17 and have kept it up my whole adult life (now 45).   If I may brag a little.... I have gorgeous arms and shoulders.  ;)

But, without my gym membership and my gym routine (cancelled in May), I've not been lifting and I can tell the difference in my upper body strength.  Especially as I work on my mostly-DIY basement renovation, lifting building materials, hauling debris, etc., I've noticed that I'm not as strong as I was.  This is simply not acceptable for either long-term health reasons or my ego.

Soooo.... that's the long way of saying, I'm in.   I've never done pushups so this will be a good challenge for me.

Thanks for lighting a fire under my belly!

I'll be the weakling to inspire others to join in.

Last night, I did 25 sit-ups and 12 KNEE!!!! push-ups. YAAA NOT WALL PUSH-UPS!

But, um, I wimped out pretty quickly. I'm not even sore today, so I probably should have pushed a little harder.

Anyhow, I'll start the program tomorrow with those starting numbers.

Ok, I need to do the 100 push-up challenge again to try to get up to 100 this time.  When I did it a few years back I got to where I could reliably do 55+ at a time.

Just did the initial test: 27.  Much better than where I started the first time, but obviously I've fallen off a bit.

Alright so, maybe two days of rest isn't long enough for my pathetic upper body strength, but I was unable to do knee push-ups today. Rather than giving up the program altogether, I've just shifted to wall push-ups instead.

Siiiiigh!

You are going to get used to it, just keep going. Also you don't have to get sore, push-ups are more a cardio excercise.

On day 4, they are "grandma" pushups, but pushups nonetheless.  I will start 200 situps with the next work out.

Day three -- 42 pushups.  A little sore but not too bad.

Adding the (hated) situps tomorrow.

This app is pretty bogus because it fails to consider diet.  I think 100 consecutive push-ups would be very challenging to achieve in 6 weeks unless you already had a good diet that can refuel and rebuild your muscles.  That being said, I'm trying it as well!  Just started a few days ago, and am on week 3.  I don't feel like I'll be able to do 100 within the next four weeks, but we shall see.

I just attempted a push up and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I didn't quite have the strength to lower myself all the way but I am very close to doing some full ones. I am going to try building up with the alternative ones and switching over. I miss the days where I could do 80 push ups, so time to work on it. (I remember my arms being like noodles after doing 80 though hehe)

I'm not sold on 200 situps, but I think 100 pushups is an interesting challenge. I should finish my current exercise goals by the end of the year, so I'll commit to trying the program in early 2014.

I'm currently at around 80 pushups and 80 situps. As you all know, this number is divided into sets, so I am not doing those all at once.

I am curious to see how the app ramps me up to reach 200 situps given that I'm only at 80-something now.

That's the spirit! I was the same way last Friday.

Sticking with it, although I'm repeating week 3 (this shit's tough...)

On a more awesome note, I met a group of people at work who do this for pushups and pullups plus a different core program over lunch MWF. Went today and felt very motivated; I'm definitely going to stick with the group.

I have been doing 300 push-ups and 300 squats almost every day for the past several years, just because I am cheap and the thought of paying for a gym membership runs contrary to my beliefs. But my workout is in sets of 10, alternating between a set of push-ups immediately followed by a set of squats, then 15 seconds of rest until the next set. Even with little break between my sets like I do now, I don't think I could do 100 consecutive push-ups, and even if I did, does it really add to fitness? First, I think I'd be exhausted and would not have the energy to do more afterwards. Then, I think it is much better for overall fitness to spread the workout over a period of at least 30 minutes. No science to back me up, only my impression.

Good points. I am not sure our goal is to do 100 pushups in a row. I am alternating between pushups and situps and love it. Maybe I'll add in squats too!

I am at around 113 pushups (divided and not all at once).

Over Thanksgiving, I was sick with a sinus infection. I felt good enough to workout twice, but I am definitely off of my regular 3 x per week schedule. Hoping to finish getting better and get back on track in a day or two.

I'm in, did my initial test on Monday, I was shocked to knock out 33!!  I had been doing pushups for the previous 2 months, but only 2 sets/day.

Monday came and nearly killed me (87 total push ups), but off we go charging today, can't wait to feel the burn (until I actually start to feel the burn...then I really want that burn to stop).

Who knew I'd be sick so long? I hope to get back on track this weekend. I've been sleeping 10-12 hours a night. I've still been walking 1-2 miles after work, so I've done at least a little exercise.

Hoping to be feeling 100% and ready to roll again this weekend. =-)

How long does the workout take you?

I would say about 40 minutes altogether for my routine, and surprisingly the last 10 sets of pushups always feel much easier than the first 10. I used to run 6 miles a day and was quite lean, but due to a running injury I stopped completely. However, since I started this new workout, I've gained about 9 pounds of muscle mass (well maybe 7, if I deduct the couple of extra fat I carry around the waist for lean days...).  But I still can't do more than 40 consecutive pushups.

I am back on the wagon after being sick for too long!

I am adding in the 30-days-to-plank challenge to the situp and pushup challenge:

excellent!

how's everybody doing? I've progressed one week over the course of a month :-P now on week 4 level 3 of the pushups. For those doing knee/wall pushups, have you made it to a harder variant yet?
