Fitocracy Moustache Challenges
« on: March 26, 2013, 09:57:56 AM »
I like Excel spreadsheets as much as the next MMM user, but I thought the free social network of Fitocracy might be a way to better do group exercise challenges / competitions.

Check out the site, it's pretty cool for fitness tracking and staying motivated.

I've taken the liberty of just starting a MMM forum themed group so we can battle in group challenges together.

It's www.fitocracy.com

The link is https://www.fitocracy.com/group/14295/?chatter for the specific group I created.

There's also an app for smartphone users, or you can update directly from the website.

Not sure if people will dig it, but seems like a good idea. Also.. free.

I signed up!  Such a good idea!  I have been lax on my fitness lately, ready to get to work!

Cool Idea!!  I tried Fitocracy a while ago and it is a great motivator.

My main issue with it is that I am a regular exerciser and already track my workouts, so having to do this one extra step was tedious.  Also, no matter how hardcore my workouts were, I could never catch up to the folks in my group running 3-6 miles daily.  :)

Enjoy!!  I'll see if I can login anyway (it's been a while) and check out the new group!

Hmm . . . seems a little buggy.  I tried to put in my weightlifting workout that I completed yesterday and it froze up on me.

As the self-appointed monthly Bike Challenge spreadsheet creator, I'd love to have a 3rd party website handle it all for us. As long as the rest of the group is on board. We should bring it up in the March Bike Commute thread, so we can get everyone's take on it before April.

We can use it as a backup maybe for a month, so nothing gets lost.

Can you get monthly distance totals from fitocracy?

I believe so.

I can create a group challenge (for cycling for example) - that should track the total amount ridden by the group. Bear with me, I've never run my own group before so knowledge of some of this is trial and error.

If you want to keep doing the spreadsheets for April.. maybe I can invite myself and 1-2 other users to run April as a test to see if it's a good solution?

I just setup an April biking challenge.

Any cycling that you track under the Cycling, Mountain Biking, Cycling (stationary), and Spinning should all count towards your cycling total and the group competition.

Things are going well so far for the cycling challenge. Next month I'm going to set one up that doesn't involve ranking.
