I was planning to break 7,000 commuting miles for the year, but on 11/22 I crashed on the way home and ended up breaking my left pinky. After having a splint for a week afterward, I had the option of surgery to correct a slight rotation in the break, or buddy-taping with the ring finger and being careful. The offset really isn't bad at all, so I went with the tape (no cast, yay!) instead of pins sticking out of my hands for a month. Downside is I can't ride... well, technically I could I guess, but even a small incident could really mess the break up. Might be able to get a couple miles in at the end of the month, but my total bike commute mileage for the year is 6,669 miles.
