Tracking cash savings and liquid investments (so excluding pensions and house value and my DH cash savings, since he has his own account which I'm not tracking)

December 2020: EUR 25,141
December 2021: EUR 40,501
December 2022: EUR 50,344

January 2023: EUR 52,461
February 2023: EUR 50,213
March 2023: EUR 51,197
April 2023: EUR 48,521
May 2023: EUR 49,658
June 2023: EUR 49,629
July 2023: EUR 49,201
August 2023: EUR 49,145
September 2023: EUR 48,847
October 2023: EUR 48,950
November 2023: EUR 43,006

Goal for 2023: EUR 60K

Definitely not reaching my 2023 goal, but with a good reason: we already bought the plane tickets for our China trip next year!!!!! We also did prepay some on our hotels etc, so we had a good reason for a decrease. We saved/ budgetted for this trip and so far, it's still looking like we will stay within budget!

01/11/2023:  €56,135

01/11/2023: €57,492 + € 1357

Its been very steady going the last couple of months. November was really good, as I finally managed to cook more real food at home, keeping the groceries down. I got a few things for the house, like an induction hob, but those expenses are spread out over the year because I put monthly amounts in sinking funds which I don't count here. I basically consider the sinking fund pots already spend, so I feel free to use them for their intended purpose.

Hoping to end the year close to 59K.

Whoa look at you @LittleWanderer!  I remember you from the "Race to 10k" thread.  And now you’re almost to 100k!!!

Great job everyone -- lots of steady progress, and a nice little market upswing for New Years.  Getting to 100k can be a tough slog, where it feels like progress is slow and market swings are big.  But you've got this y'all.  Go go go!

Hey everyone! So excited to make it to this thread finally. Here are my numbers as of this morning.

3/4/2022: $12,100 cash + $1,034 investments - $0 debt = $13,134 NW

7/12/2022: $14,300 cash + $2,450 investments - $0 debt = $16,750 NW

Finally graduated college at the ripe old age of 27 and landed a good job, so I'm looking forward to watching my stache grow at a faster rate!

I had hoped to be closer to $20K in net worth this time of year, but I spent a dumb amount of money furnishing my new apartment with brand new stuff.

I was walking through Goodwill yesterday and realized I would've been just as happy with the used furniture, dishes and appliances they were selling. I still have a lot to learn but I've been learning a lot by devouring every episode of the Mad Fientist podcast. Really interested in maxing my 401k and IRA somehow.

11/5/2022: $18,312 cash + $4,002 401k + $4,560 IRA = $26,874 NW

7/26/2023: $23,106 cash + $14,014 401k + $14,654 IRA + $35 brokerage - $0 debt = $51,809 NW

$100k here I come! But more importantly, happy fulfilled life here I come. Really proud that I'm obsessing over this number much less now.

12/30/2023: $30,342 cash + $110 brokerage + $23,948 401k + $15,409 IRA  - $0 debt = $69,809 NW Happy new year!

29/04/2020: €18.544
31/05/2020: €21.280,05

Big gap

01/12/2022: € 21.636,38 +€ 972.77.
01/01/2023: € 22.315,45 +€ 679.07
01/02/2023: € 23.270,66 +€ 955.21
01/03/2023: € 24.052,03 +€ 781,37
01/04/2023: € 24.755,50 +€ 703,47
01/05/2023: € 25,649.20 + € 893.70

01/09/2023:  €53,363 (house purchase)
01/10/2023:  €54,611
01/11/2023:  €56,135
01/12/2023:  €57,492

01/12/2023: €59,606 + €2,114 Investments: €550

Well, I smashed that €59K goal thanks to an unexpected bonus from work! I managed to pay back my parents in full on a loan that I got for the housemove, I increased my emergency fund and invested for the first time in a while. I have investments again! That makes me very happy. And all this while not restricting too fiercely and spending money on the house and saving up seperate little pots for expected expenses, like holidays and electronics.

All in all 2023 was a year that saw a big move with me buying a house. It was a large expense and has skewed my net worth to be 85% in bricks. But I still managed to save a good amount of money and find a good balance between spending on the house and life and putting money away. Up to another succesfull year. Happy New Year!

In 2024 I plan to complete the emergency fund, after which I will invest again considerably. The goal is to decrease the percentage of net worth that is in my house. The net worth goal for next year is around €73.5K. But I will stay flexible, cause life has a way of trowing curve balls at you.

Tracking cash savings and liquid investments (so excluding pensions and house value and my DH cash savings, since he has his own account which I'm not tracking)

December 2020: EUR 25,141
December 2021: EUR 40,501
December 2022: EUR 50,344
December 2023: EUR 51,366

Goal for 2024: EUR 55K

Happy New Year!!!! Managed to get my liquids around the same amount as 2022, which is OK. Total net worth went up considerably, since we put a lot of liquids into the house as early repayment of the mortgage.
For 2024, we're planning a big trip, which will dig into the liquids and we want to continue the early repayment of the mortgage (we're trying to double the payment each month, which is a challenge, but hey, who doesn't like a good challenge!). But I'm still hoping to go up slightly.

The January sales got me. I bought some clothing and far too much food for the pantry. On top of that my long distance bf came over for a week. All in all I spend a bit more than I was planning, but nothing too regretfull. It is very fun to see my investments moving, even if its just a small amount. I am having fun with it.

Tracking cash savings and liquid investments (so excluding pensions and house value and my DH cash savings, since he has his own account which I'm not tracking)

December 2020: EUR 25,141
December 2021: EUR 40,501
December 2022: EUR 50,344
December 2023: EUR 51,366

January 2024: EUR 51,666

Goal for 2024: EUR 55K

Small increase this month in liquids (which I'm tracking here), but we did an extra payment on the mortgage, so total net worth increased more than this!
Still expecting some maintenance work on the house, so this will also be paid from our savings and will keep the increase for 2024 limited.

@LittleWanderer you are sooooooooo close!

@LittleWanderer Nice!

Second update ever. Changed the file a bit, now calculating at eom and included some measures. Savings rate is calculated using income from work, income is not in the table. There is also money coming from other sources, which I don't count toward savings rate.
Today I already transferred the money for february investments. In truth, the aim was not met for february: added 2.261 and the aim was 2.323.
Total includes investment growth.

Thanks for all the support!  I'm a single lady who just turned 41 last week and doesn't earn that much, so it was a battle.  I hope to see you all in the next thread soon!!! :)

Haven't updated in a while. The increase in the past months is no thanks to my savings, which were very minimal during that time frame, but due to the recent stock market and especially BTC increases. My long term girlfriend and I broke up in December. This was not only sad but also costly, as I bought her out of all posessions we co-owned which ended up being around 9 k €. I negotiated a raise of 1 k € a month before taxes starting in February, this more than covers having to pay rent on my own. I'll also receive a bonus of 12 k € before taxes soon, so barring any stock market or BTC downturns I might speedwalk out of this race despite the turmoil of the last months.

Tracking cash savings and liquid investments (so excluding pensions and house value and my DH cash savings, since he has his own account which I'm not tracking)

December 2020: EUR 25,141
December 2021: EUR 40,501
December 2022: EUR 50,344
December 2023: EUR 51,366

January 2024: EUR 51,666
February 2024: EUR 52,399

Goal for 2024: EUR 55K

Nice decent increase. No special things in February, so just the regular savings/investments. Waiting for my job re-grading, which hopefully will result in a salary increase.

@LittleWanderer : huge, huge, HUGE CONGRATS!!!!! You made it!
@Ze Stash: sorry to hear about your breakup. Hope you get back on track soon!

Another interesting metric is until what date can you live with your SWR? So projected SWR and current portfolio.
Coincidentially, I could've survived with a SWR of 4% on current portfolio until today.
Has anyone else tried to measure their progress in this way?

In excel I did the following formula to calculate this:
=45292+Portfolio*SWR/CostOfLivingPerday

45292 is the 1st of january 2024 per Excel count of days.
Format the cell as date and you get the day until your SWR money theoretically runs out :).

Thanks for all the support!  I'm a single lady who just turned 41 last week and doesn't earn that much, so it was a battle.  I hope to see you all in the next thread soon!!! :)

Yay, yay, yay!! You stuck to it, and you achieved your goal! Welcome to the next thread!!!

I still feel somewhat uncertain about tracking by Net Worth vs Cash+Liquid&Retirement Investments. I understand the argument for the latter for homeowners, to strike out estimated home value and mortgage balance. But since I rent and my liabilities are in student loans, it doesn't feel "real" to say that I have almost $40k in cash+liquid investments. (!!)

But even in a full NW calculation, I've now crossed the $10k mark! My NW has already increased by almost $8k since the beginning of the year due to a very lucrative February (:

3/7/2024 NW: $11.4k / Cash/Stocks: $38.4k

I'm only tracking my "stache," aka my retirement investments. My actual NW may cross the 100k mark this year. My stache... not so much.

I'm guessing that discrepancy is in home equity?

Like I said, I see the value in excluding home/mortgage, but student loans (and current statement balances on credit cards, for that matter) seem more like straightforward dollar inputs that don't have the same complexity as real estate. I just don't feel like I "have" almost $40k when I almost have -$40k in student loans balancing it right out. (The other assets bringing me up over $10k are my musical instruments).

Mostly, but not entirely. My total NW breakdown is currently, roughly:
around $20k cash
around $10k in a 529
around $14k investments
around $123k primary residence
around -$62k mortgage
an -$8k loan from a relative who refuses to allow me to pay her back, but I feel virtually certain will come calling for that money in the future.

I don't count the cash savings because its entire purpose is to be there for unexpected expenses; its nature is that it can disappear quickly. I don't count the house because I intend to live in it. While it's possible I could someday mobilize its value for income purposes, it's unlikely in my case.

For my purposes here, what I'm concerned with is growing the stache for future income. I have a $500,000 stache goal, not a NW goal. But how you or anyone else here chooses to track and what we choose to count is a highly individual decision.

As of March 5, I have $100,068 invested with Victory Capital. :) I know that's not a lot compared to what other people have saved up, but I'm low income and made some sacrifices to get to this point, and the past few years had some serious challenges. I'm pretty happy to have made it to this point. :)

I also have $36K in the state retirement system.

Way to go!! 100k was a tough one for me to break through. It felt like it got easier after that. I also have money in my state retirement system (PERS), I find it hard to calculate but I include my portion in my net worth because if I ever left I could in theory cash that amount out. The pension amount is a whole nother beast that i havent figured out how to add into my retirement calculations just yet. See you in the next race!
