If you ever really "need" HBO, you can just subscribe to HBO Now for the duration of whatever show you want to watch.  Or you can subscribe to it for one month after your show is finished airing for the season and binge watch the season and then cancel.

Our cable company jacked up the rate $10 a month so DW decided to go along with my desire to cut it completely.  We make the call and the reduce the bill by $15 ($5 less than previous) and throw in free movie channels for the rest of the year.  So now for the first time ever I have HBO.   How did this happen?!!

We went antenna and Netflix in November.  It's been great, and really Netflix is 95% of what we watch.  The antenna has only been useful a few times, but nice last night when the US women played in the World Cup.

I'm also enjoying the $1,400 annual savings over my DirectTV bill!

We turned in our cable boxes and DVRs in June 2014. I think we had Showtime and Starz channels at the time. We continued our Netflix subscription and movie rentals from RedBox. With a 9 and 11 year old at the time, I thought it would be more difficult than it has been. No troubles though, the kids have gotten used to it and don't care that cable is gone.

I was basically never watching TV anyhow, and the kids had both migrated to online stuff too.  Actually, now that I have an antenna (free TV!) I'm watching tv for the first time in about 15 years - Jeopardy! I love it! Otherwise the tv-tv is never on. I paid for cable for a long long long time - so glad to be done w/ it.
