I seem to be subsisting on light weight reads recently.  The world is getting me down, so I'm escaping into happy books.

Oh my gosh, me too.  Everything I'm reading right now is escapist fluff.

30) Still Mine – Amy Stuart – thriller genre and I found it diverting
31) Still Water – Amy Stuart, like her first one enough to source the second one.
32) Origins: how Earth’s history shaped human history – Lewis Dartnell.
33) The Nightingale – Kristin Hannah – a good quick read for the book club I just joined.
34) The Runaway – Hollie Overton – a quick read
35)  Warlight – Michael Ondaatje – loved this.  He is such a beautiful writer.

I too am leaning heavily into light reading.  But I am thrilled that I am reading again.  It is a sign that my brain is healing.  In 2019 I think I managed three books all year.

53. The Westing Game, by Ellen Raskin, finished 10/22/20 (audio).

54. Tangerine, by Christine Mangan, finished 11/4/20 (audio). Looked interesting because it was a mystery/thriller of sorts set in Morocco in the 1950s (with women as the protagonists!).  But was fairly disappointing.  The narrator was particular annoying, but I think the main "good" character would have been awful no matter what.

Abandoned: The Witches: Salem, 1692, by Stacy Schiff.  I read way more of this than I should have, but I almost never abandon a book.  I think it's been maybe two decades since I have.  But this was just too hard to read.  The chapter construction, paragraph construction.  Just ponderous.

Aw, I'm sad you didn't like Witches! I read it a while ago and loved it -- but I was also doing a PhD dissertation at the time, so my appetite for ponderous was pretty big. :3

I was just thinking that, if I were taking notes while reading it, it might have gone better!  Also, a hard copy rather than a kindle so it would be easy to flip back and forth.  It's too bad, as I really am so interested in the topic and it did feel like it really put me in 17th century MA in such a tactile way.

Have you posted the full tables like this before? I love seeing the information that people categorize about their books -- from source (owned/library/borrowed) to genre and any other pertinent info, like why it's being read. It just brings me so much delight.

Yep, this year I decided to post my whole tracker table instead of just title/author.  In past years I've tracked genre and completion date, but this year I added book source and reason for reading.  I wanted to keep track of how I was doing on my TBR list, and the PopSugar challenge.

Looking back over the year, I can see exactly where I gave up on PopSugar (I hadn't been enjoying the books I read for it), when my local library closed (sudden string of "own"/"reread" books), when I discovered Open Library, and when my local library opened for contactless pickup.  What a year it's been!  I haven't made as much progress on my TBR list as intended, but reread a lot of old favorites instead.

56. The Orenda, by Joseph Boyden, finished 11/17/20.  Well researched and deeply characterized.  Fascinating historical fiction about the early 17th century Huron/Iroquois/French conflict (which I previously knew nothing about).  The torture scenes, however, were so detailed, lengthy and numerous as to make it extremely difficult to read at times and more than made their point.  And this comes from someone who likes watching horror movies for fun.

57. Middlegame, by Seanan McGuire, finished 11/22/20 (audio).  Not very good and for the love of god, never listen to the audio book.  Worst narrator ever, who inexplicably switched between what seemed to be the voice of Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West approximately every 3rd word for one of the characters and it. was. terrible.
