37. Becoming by Michelle Obama (audiobook). Very interesting, glad I made it through the whole 19 hours.
38. Dark Emu by Bruce Pascoe. So it turns out the commonly understood history of the Australian First nations around the time of colonisation is entirely wrong. This book paints a v different picture of agriculturalists living in villages, the author's sources being the journals of the colonisers. Another v interesting book.
39. Goodwood by Holly Throsby. An Australian mystery set in a small town. Will probably read more by this author.

I put too many holds on library ebooks and they are all popping up now, right when I'm busy at work :/

I am so in! I use the Goodreads app to track but have fallen shy the last 2 months. Womp, womp.
I also am counting the books I read on audible toward the goal of 52 books in 2019. I have a dirty little problem with going to the library and seeing a new book then reading that one. Instead I should be diving into my own living room library. Goals, must remember the goals!

29. Americanah, Chimamada Ngozi Adichie (mine)

30. Fascism: A Warning, Madeleine Albright (mine). This is a good one. Some might call it alarmist; I'd call it prescient. A good, easy historical overview of fascist movements and their ilk (much simpler than the Paxton, although I think the Paxton is great for anyone into serious history), and Albright is an engaging writer who clearly has the street cred.

I am at 10/15 for pre-2019 books.

Currently reading:

Native Tongue, Suzette Elgin (library)
Good Omens, Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett (mine) (re-read #12 or so, reading this out loud with my partner <3)

Good Omens, Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett (mine) (re-read #12 or so, reading this out loud with my partner <3)

I had put in a digital recommendation for the NYC library to get the script book ('cause I wouldn't mind looking through it but definitely not paying for it since I already have the book and watched the series) and unexpectedly they acquired the book and auto-lent it to me within 24 hours of my rec. So now this will be my next book, too...

May and early June just flew by with the Robotics team completing their build and heading to the international MATE competition for underwater ROVs... So between that, school, and work, I had little time for fun reading. This post is essentially a recap of two months of progress.

I had hit the goal of 50 books read about the middle of May. It is really amazing the progress one can make when they make a decision and have the tools and resources needed to succeed!

I had heard that most CEOs read 50 books per year, so I really wanted to see if I could do this. Thank you all for the initial post and challenge!

1. Infernal Devices - Philip Reeve - 1/3/18
2. Sapiens - Yuval Noah Harari - 1/12/18 - UGH. Great subject, TERRIBLE execution. 200 pages of content in 430 pages of endless fucking lists and artificial dichotomies. Will never be reading another book from this author. He needs an editor to take the wind out of his (verbose, tedious, pedantic, excessive) sails
3. How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind - Dana White - 1/21/19
4. A Darkling Plain - Philip Reeve - 1/22/19
5. Woman on Fire - Amy Jo Goddard - 2/11/19 - fucking AWFUL. I don't think I'm the target audience. I found it incredibly condescending and reductionist and self-righteous. It was for book club. Hate that I even had to finish it!
6. Better Than Before - Gretchen Rubin - 2/19/19 - great. I highly recommend it.
7. The Female Persuasion - Meg Wolitzer - 3/1/19- actually a pretty solid read! Kept me engaged. Not my usual by any means (it was for book club), but not an annoyance read either.
8. The Thief - Megan Whalen Turner - 3/10/19 - these are fun kids reads. Well written and engaging.
9. The Queen of Attolia - Megan Whalen Turner - 3/15/19
10. The King of Attolia - Megan Whalen Turner - 3/19/20
11. Dies in Fire - S M Stirling - 3/21/19 - Book club book. This was really good! It's a local author, and I hate to say it, but I wasn't expecting much. Good read though. World war z writing vibe, but more compelling characters.
12. A Conspiracy of Kings - Megan Whalen Turner - 3/24/19
13. Thick as Thieves Megan Whalen Turner - 3/28/19
14. Thanks a Thousand: A Gratitude Journey - AJ Jacobs - 4/6/19 - not one of my favorite books by him. Hit it's stride a *little* more later on? But really, could have easily been an article and been better for it. Not much of his usual reliable great humor either. Eh.
15. The Year of Living Danishly - Helen Russell - 4/4/19 - pretty good, although the surprise infertility/miracle pregnancy store line crushed my sad little infertile heart. Definitely made me laugh out loud a time or two, and was an interesting look into denmark. A bit dry in places though.
16. Flight Behavior - Barabara Kingsolver - 4/15/19 - took me a little bit to get into this, but it was really good. Sad at times for sure. Empowering. Politically topical. Not sure why I owned it for so long without reading it! I love her books.
17. The Prophet - Kahlil Gibran - 4/24/19
18. Expecting Better - Emily Oster - 5/2/19
19. The Keystone Approach: Healing Arthritis and Psoriasis by Healing the Microbiome - Rebecca Fett - 5/8/19
20. Atomic Habits - James Clear - in progress (ugh this is a slog. Better than Before was way better) abandoned at about 60%
21. Your Money or Your Life - Joseph R. Dominguez, Monique Tilford, and Vicki Robin - 5/25/19
22. Cribsheets - Emily Oster - 6/6/19
23. The Power - Naomi Alderman - 6/7/19 - book club. Compelling and very readable, but depressing and pretty graphic (lots of sexual violence).

24. The Protector's War - SM Stirling - 7/2/19 - long book, but also I've been *exhausted* this month. Pregnancy might ruin my reading goal, even before the baby gets here!
25. Desert Queen: The Extraordinary Life of Gertrude Bell by Janet Wallach

31. milk and honey, Rupi Kaur (mine). Not impressed. A few good lines, but nothing in here is really poetry -- it's Instagram quotes with line breaks inserted. I got it because I figured an oft-quoted NYT bestselling poetry book would be good, but alas, I should have figured that any poetry that got on the NYT bestsellers would not really be poetry. :(
