1. Infernal Devices - Philip Reeve - 1/3/18
2. Sapiens - Yuval Noah Harari - 1/12/18 - UGH. Great subject, TERRIBLE execution. 200 pages of content in 430 pages of endless fucking lists and artificial dichotomies. Will never be reading another book from this author. He needs an editor to take the wind out of his (verbose, tedious, pedantic, excessive) sails
3. How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind - Dana White - 1/21/19
4. A Darkling Plain - Philip Reeve - 1/22/19
5. Woman on Fire - Amy Jo Goddard - 2/11/19 - fucking AWFUL. I don't think I'm the target audience. I found it incredibly condescending and reductionist and self-righteous. It was for book club. Hate that I even had to finish it!
6. Better Than Before - Gretchen Rubin - 2/19/19 - great. I highly recommend it.
7. The Female Persuasion - Meg Wolitzer - 3/1/19- actually a pretty solid read! Kept me engaged. Not my usual by any means (it was for book club), but not an annoyance read either.
8. The Thief - Megan Whalen Turner - 3/10/19 - these are fun kids reads. Well written and engaging.
9. The Queen of Attolia - Megan Whalen Turner - 3/15/19
10. The King of Attolia - Megan Whalen Turner - 3/19/20
11. Dies in Fire - S M Stirling - 3/21/19 - Book club book. This was really good! It's a local author, and I hate to say it, but I wasn't expecting much. Good read though. World war z writing vibe, but more compelling characters.
12. A Conspiracy of Kings - Megan Whalen Turner - 3/24/19
13. Thick as Thieves Megan Whalen Turner - 3/28/19
14. Thanks a Thousand: A Gratitude Journey - AJ Jacobs - 4/6/19 - not one of my favorite books by him. Hit it's stride a *little* more later on? But really, could have easily been an article and been better for it. Not much of his usual reliable great humor either. Eh.
15. The Year of Living Danishly - Helen Russell - 4/4/19 - pretty good, although the surprise infertility/miracle pregnancy store line crushed my sad little infertile heart. Definitely made me laugh out loud a time or two, and was an interesting look into denmark. A bit dry in places though.
16. Flight Behavior - Barabara Kingsolver - 4/15/19 - took me a little bit to get into this, but it was really good. Sad at times for sure. Empowering. Politically topical. Not sure why I owned it for so long without reading it! I love her books.

17. The Prophet - Kahlil Gibran - 4/24/19
18. Atomic Habits - James Clear - in progress
19. Expecting Better - Emily Oster - in progress

This thread saved the day, by the way! I couldn't remember if I was next on the book club hosting rotation. I need to know because if so, tomorrow I pick the book! Well I was able to check my reading list and verify I'll be picking and hosting.

I'm in! I seem to always have a goal to increase my reading. I've seen an uptick in my travel for work so I've been able to tackle more audiobooks lately. I also learned to crochet and that gives me a lot of time to read, if I can find the time to do that. A friend turned me on to Orson Scott Card and I love those audiobooks, so this list will probably be dominated by his books.

1. Earth Afire by Orson Scott Card
2. Children of the Fleet by Orson Scott Card
3. The Memory of Earth by Orson Scott Card
4. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
5. Earth Awakens by Orson Scott Card
6. Hollow City by Ransom Riggs
7. Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo
8. The Richest Man In Babylon by George Clason
9. The Swarm by Orson Scott Card
10. Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card

11. Alcatraz Versus the Scrivener's Bones by Brandon Sanderson

19. The Odyssey, Homer, trans. Emily Wilson (mine). Ohhhh this was great. I love The Odyssey as a story -- and have since I was first introduced to it when I was about 11 -- but this translation is great. No fumbling archaicisms, no trying to make Greek culture into ours, just lucid, flowing language and what feels like great depth of insight. (And the introduction and the translator's note are great.)

I am at 3/15 for pre-2019 books.

Ha ha, indeed! After that I read Cannery Row (Steinbeck) and I've started another Percy Jackson. I'll update my list in another book or two. I'm trying to be literary and converse with my 9 year old. ;)

April was a tight month for outside reading beyond school work, the robotics team, and work. Did not nearly get as much done as I would have liked.

I am happy that at least one of the books read were on my goal list for 2019. (Atomic Habits)

Would have like to finish my 50 in April, but I know that when I meet the goal that I will not stop reading for 2019. I love it! :)

46   Atomic Habits - Clear
47   Digital Minimalism - Newport
48   The Third Wave - Case

18. Expecting Better - Emily Oster - 5/2/19
19. Atomic Habits - James Clear - in progress
20. The Keystone Approach: Healing Arthritis and Psoriasis by Healing the Microbiome - Rebecca Fett - in progress

6. Sarah Andersen - Adulthood Is A Myth

12. Lisa Goldstein - The Red Magician
13. Shea Ernshaw - The Wicked Deep
14. Rafi Zabor - The Bear Comes Home
15. Victoria Lee - The Fever King

18. Ransom Riggs - Library of Souls

21. Jonathan Auxier - The Night Gardener
22. James Lovegrove - The Labyrinth of Death
23. James Lovegrove - The Stuff of Nightmares

24. David Grann - Killers of the Flower Moon

A nonfiction title for a change. Liked it, didn't love it, but it was fascinating to learn about this piece of U.S. history that's largely overlooked.

Trying to read a self-help type book next, which never goes well for me - I never finish them because I always hate them... but I need a lot of help, so I'm trying again ;-)

Erm.... is it too late to join in?

Been doing other things but want to catch the reading bug again. And there are some great titles I might just dip into.

Just finished:
1. Atomic Habits - James Clear. Nothing crazily new here, but a good summary of how small habitual changes can snowball. Here’s to a new habit of reading - hopefully an average of two books / week!

Wish me luck!

26. Micromastery by Robert Twigger - about learning a tiny skill as an impetus to learning more. e.g. learning a few foreign phrases before going to a beginners class which might put you off with all the boring grammar. Or learning a cool martial arts move or how to cook one dish really well.
27. Throw Out Fifty Things by Gail Blanke (audiobook) I don't think I was the intended audience, half of it is about emotional baggage not decluttering. I'll stick to Kondo.
28 & 29. Divergent and Insurgent by Veronica Roth. Note to self - check library has book 3 of a trilogy before starting. In my google search I got all the spoilers :(

In progress: The Brain's Way of Healing by Norman Doige and Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg

12. Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs     (Excellent...best of the trilogy)

Good to hear! This is my next audiobook I think. Second book was pretty meh imo. Fine but not good enough for me to drop everything to continue the series.

Late starter here ...

1. May: Atomic Habits, by James Clear (kindle). Nothing particularly new, but an easy summary of research over the last decade or so.
2. May: Decisive: How to make better decisions, by Chip and Dan Heath (library). Insightful and introduced a simple method to help overcome some of our inbuilt biases.

Check yr library! I'm sure it'll have at least one of these, or something very like it.

Oh, I will!  It's just that my TBR list is 50+ books long, and growing faster than I can read.  And I read quite quickly!  Still, good problems to have :)

30. Lean in by Sheryl Sandberg (audiobook)
31. Make Your Bed by William H Mcraven. (audiobook) Includes a description of the most painful sounding skydiving accident ever, ouch. Immediately after finishing this I couldn't remember what the 10 life lessons were apart from making your bed, being nice to people and not giving up. The descriptions of the authors time in Navy Seal training were interesting though.

Currently reading and enjoying The Year of Less. I ran out of time with the Brain Healing book and will have to check it out for the fourth time :/

Currently listening to and enjoying The Minimalist Home.
