8. Animal Farm by George Orwell (25/4/17)
9. That Eye, the Sky by Tim Winton (25/4/17)
10. Love in a Cold Climate by Nancy Mitford (28/4/17) I can't believe I haven't read this before, it's just my thing - 1930s Britain - but in a change from my usual George Orwell and the drudgery of the working classes this novel is about the silliness of the upper classes.

1. The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead (excellent; page-turning, memorable, couldn't wait to get back to reading when I had to put it down)
2. Lab Girl by Hope Jahren (one of the best memoirs I've read in a while. Also incidentally learned a lot about trees)
3. Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo (eh. Good info, but could've been condensed to about 1/3 the length)
4. Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout
5. When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi
6.The Gene: An Intimate History by Siddhartha Mukherjee (40% finished; loan expired)
7. You are Not So Smart by David McRaney - made it about 40% through this book before giving up. It's geared towards people who know nothing about psychology/research methods. I skimmed the table of contents and realized I wasn't missing much.
8. Black Water by Louise Doughty
9. A Criminal Defense by William Myers, Jr. (Kindle First book - I was pleasantly surprised. Much better than other Kindle First books I've tried)
10. Ghettoside by Jill Leovy

There is no way I'll hit 50 this year, but I'm enjoying playing along anyway. This challenge is definitely encouraging me to read more.

11. Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling

I'm in! Moving to within a stone's throw of our local public library in a couple of months, so hopefully I can stay on the wagon since I'll have no excuses!

No standard format it appears, so I guess I'll just post what I'm currently reading?

1. Building Construction Before Mechanization - John Fitchen

Updating with a hefty list, sorry I've been so busy I haven't been back to check in! Here we go:

2. Do-It-Yourself Hedge Funds, by Wayne P. Weddington III
3. The Rational Optimist, by Matt Ridley
4. The Investor’s Manifesto, by William J. Bernstein

6. An Embarrassment of Riches, by Alexander Green
7. Wealth Secrets of the Affluent: Keys to Fortune Building and Asset Protection, by Christopher Jarvis and David Mandell

9. In The Company of Stone: The Art of the Stone Wall, by Dan Snow
10. The Art and Craft of Stonework, by David Reed
11. The Complete Tightwad Gazette, by Amy Dacyczyn

Working on Awaken the Giant Within, by Tony Robbins. Will check in when that's done. Also queued up - A Game of Thrones (George R.R. Martin), Zero to One (Peter Thiel), and a few others I have checked out of the library at the moment.

Happy page turning, all!

12. Awaken the Giant Within, by Tony Robbins
13. Zero to One, by Peter Thiel
14. A Game of Thrones, by George R. R. Martin (now I see what all the hype was about!)

Working on getting through some miscellaneous nonfiction I have out from the library before the rest of the GoT series draws me in.

La chica del tren
Excellent Sheep: The Miseducation of the American Elite and the Way to a Meaningful Life
The Wild Duck
Insane Clown President: Dispatches from the 2016 Circus
Mindset: The New Psychology Of Success [hated-- it's obvious and repetitive]
The Brain Fog Fix: Reclaim Your Focus, Memory, and Joy in Just 3 Weeks [hated -- lots of long-winded fluff only to get to the pount in about two pages at the end]
Food Freedom Forever: Letting Go of Bad Habits, Guilt, and Anxiety Around Food [hated -- not only is this repetitive within itself, it takes entire sections from her other book(s)]
Todas las hadas del reino
Bitterblue (Graceling Realm, #3)
Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap... and Others Don't
Sons of Wichita: How the Koch Brothers Became America's Most Powerful and Private Dynasty

Gone Girl
Spark Joy: An Illustrated Master Class on the Art of Organizing and Tidying Up

A Slip of the Keyboard -- Terry Pratchett
Griftopia -- Matt Taibbi
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency -- Douglas Adams
13 Reasons Why -- Jay Asher
The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul
39. Battle Royale
40. The Mind's Eye --Oliver Sacks
41. Amusing Ourselves to Death
42. The Miracle Morning -- hated  A HUGE and offensive* waste of time. I've been interested in adding meditation to my routine and this was recommended. It mentions meditation, but mostly it's a long, repetitive, poorly written, offensive sales pitch. I haven't been commenting on my books, but I don't want anyone to read this list and think, "Hey, that looks interesting." I'll add some more comments above for books I hated.

This week my students are turning in short stories, so I probably won't get much book reading in.

21. Wool By Howey, Hugh
22. Millionaire Teacher - The Nine Rules of Wealth You Should Have Learned in School By Hallam, Andrew
23. Seveneves By Stephenson, Neal
24. Forty Chances: Finding Hope in A Hungry World By Buffett, Howard G.
25. How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia By Hamid, Mohsin (audiobook)
26. A Stroke of Midnight By Hamilton, Laurell K.[/b]

Have to ask... what did you think of Wool?

I REALLY liked it! By the end I couldn't put it down. Reading Shift at the moment.

I read these lists to get  ideas for my next book.  I wish more people commented on which books they really liked or disliked.  Thanks for you comment on Wool.  By the way I was really disappointed with Seveneves.  I did not like the way it ended, what a cop out.

I agree. I sometimes go through this and try to check out the synopses of interesting looking titles on Goodreads, but I would love to see more recommendations too. Perhaps I'll go back and add some reviews to my list.

If you're looking for something good and like fiction, I have to recommend The Prestige. I haven't stopped thinking about this book since I read it.

I read these list to get ideas too. If something catches my eye I'll go to goodreads to find out more info and see the reviews, but from the start I am judging a book by the title alone. There are a couple other book related threads with more info.

I liked Seveneves quite a bit, but I agree the ending left a lot to be desired.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
