I'm hoping to do this challenge in 2017. I didn't keep up this year, however I just finished reading " great small things" by Jodi Picoult this morning. It was really very good. I would recommend it.

I read that just recently, I didnt mind it but the ending annoyed me a little, kinda finished a bit too unrealistic for my liking

Wouldn't have made the 50 if it wasn't for Jim Butcher.  Not even sure you could call me a Butcher fan at this point, but they were entertaining and easy to fly through quickly.  Anyhow, here's the whole list with stars.  Best book of the year: Ficciones.  Worst: American Psycho.

I tried to read more books by women and from those outside the USA. I read a number of real treats as a result.  I plan to continue this next year, as well as throw in a few classics I've been sleeping on.

Narrowing the list down to favorites. I will wait for the end of the year.
I found I have read many terrible books this year. I must quit and move on next time- a complete waste of time, and boring!

Does anyone want to share their TOP 5 READS of 2016? I'm curious to know why as well.

Umm this is hard and I dont know about order of top 5

These things happen – Greg Fleet I found this funny, and also kinda depressing. It helps I am a fan of Greg Fleet though. It was good to read about his struggle with drug addiction and how it has affected his life and career

The Martian – Andy Weir I just found this a really engaging and interesting read. I liked the book a lot more than the movie, though that's usually the case

Holding Yawulyu: White Culture and Black women’s law – Zohl De Ishta - Interesting read on a group of Indigenous woman living in Northern Western Australia and the authors take on the cultural differences between black and white Australians

The girl on the train – Paula Hawkins - Just found this really gripping and couldnt put it down

Full planet, empty plates: the new geopolitics of food scarcity – Lester Brown - I enjoyed it and its made me think a bit more about the resources we have and the problems we may face in the future

TOP 5 2016. not in order.
1. The Mad Woman Upstairs (Catherine Lowell).
Although this is a work of fiction, I learned quite a bit of the Brönte sisters. The book is about a fictional descendant who is left a scavenger hunt by her deceased father. I have enjoyed learning some history via historical fiction this year.
2. The Salaryman's Wife (Sujatta Massey). Rei Shimura Mystery Series #1. I have reread the series (11 books) several times, but this is my favorite. A lot of Japanese culture, murder, and some romance. The authors writing is simple and poetic- I can appreciate her writing style.
3. Witch World 1- Red Queen (Christopher Pike)
I feel nostalgic when reading this author of teen horror. This one is unlike any other horror/sci-fi book I've read- with a unique take on witches and science. I read the sequel as well, and it was OK, but the plot was out of left field which bothered me.
4. A Great and Terrible Beauty (Libba Bray) . Gemma Doyle Series 1. I found this teen author a couple years ago and was hooked. She's excellent and able to successfully write various genre as well as time periods ( 1895 England, 1920's New York, modern day.)This particular series combines 1895 England and India with horror and history. It's also completely unique imo, with occult horror and sci-fi.
5. Rebel Angels (Libba Bray) . Gemma Doyle Series 2. A lot more culture in this.one, and the experience of being a young lady in England in 1895 (think corsets and chaperones). I didn't so much like the third in the series.

Kudos to all who played this past year. =-)

I reached the 50 and might have exceeded it. I'm fairly sure I forgot to list a few books, and I keep forgetting to do it.

Will you set this goal for yourself again in 2017?
