I'm well behind the pace, but I would like to be reading more--it's one of the things I really missed in school. This will hopefully keep me more honest:

Completed
1. The Rule of Lawyers by Walter Olsen (extremely interesting history of the expansion of personal injury/class action lawsuits)
2. The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham
3. Flashboys by Michael Lewis
4. Liars Poker by Michael Lewis
5. The Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad
6. Barbarians at the Gate by Bryan Burrough and John Helyar (fascinating and extremely well-written history of the RJR Nabisco leveraged buy-out)
7. I'm certain I'm forgetting some, will need to consult my bookshelf

Currently reading:
8. In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
9. El amor en los tiempos de colera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
10. The Theory of Poker by Gary Stanslasky

On deck:
11. The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson
12. The Economic and Political Manuscripts of 1844 by Karl Marx
13. The Corrections by Johnathon Franzen
14. Moneyball by Michael Lewis

Wishlist:
15. Capital in the Twenty-First Century by Thomas Piketty
16. Between the World and Me by Tah-Nesi Coates
17. The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander
18. Debt: The First 5000 Years by David Graeber
19. House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski
20. The Last Hero by Terry Pratchett (the last Discworld novel I need to complete my collection)

I am not counting the 2-3 Terry Pratchett novels that I know I reread when I was home for the holidays as is my habit, mainly because I don't remember which ones they were.

PopSugar 2016 book challenge list for the rest of the year (bolded text shows newly completed book):

1. A book based on a fairy tale - The Robber Bride - Margaret Atwood 3/2/16
2. A National Book Award winner - Between the World and Me - Ta-Nehisi Coates. - so good. I am thankful that I read this book; I could say so much more but then I would be droning on and just . . EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS!! Not only is it important because of the subject, but his writing is also beautiful.
3. A YA bestseller - Uglies by Scott Westerfeld 3/13/16 Pretties by Scott Westerfeld and also Specials by Scott Westerfeld. Trilogies kill me but I can't stop at just the first book
4. A book you haven't read since high school -  Knight in Shining Armour - Jude Deveraux 3/16/2016 - this was a hoot to reread!
5. A book set in your home state A Girl Named Zippy - Haven Kimmel 4/20/16 Growing up in a small town in Indiana was pretty boring, reading this book about growing up in a small town in Indiana was also sort of boring. Ahh well.
6. A book translated to English  The Master and Margarita - Bulgakov 4/1/16
7. A romance set in the future - Devoted in Death- JD Robb 4/8/16 I've been reading the In Death series for the like the last 20 years so very happy the latest paperback fit into a category on this list.
8. A book set in Europe - The Vatican Princess by C.W. Gortner - it was fine. For some reason I can read endless HistFics about the Tudors and Plantagenets but for some reason I feel like books about the Borgias are all the same
9. A book under 150 pages - The Buddha in the Attic - Julie Otsuka 4/10/16 This was a beautiful book and a quick read and I highly recommend it. The story of Japanese "picture brides" who emigrated in the early 1900's - the book follows them to the WWII internment camps and was actually very timely.
10. A New York Times bestseller - Prince Lestate by Anne Rice - this book was actually awful. I've read most of the vampire chronicles and enjoyed the first several but should have remembered how blah the more recent ones were.
11. A book that's becoming a movie this year
12. A book recommended by someone you just met
13. A self-improvement book
14. A book you can finish in a day
15. A book written by a celebrity
16. A political memoir
17. A book at least 100 years older than you
18. A book that's more than 600 pages :Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Unset 2/24/16
19. A book from Oprah's Book Club
20. A science-fiction novel
21. A book recommended by a family member: Home by Marylin Robinson  2/20/16
22. A graphic novel
23. A book that is published in 2016
24. A book with a protagonist who has your occupation
25. A book that takes place during Summer
26. A book and its prequel
27. A murder mystery
28. A book written by a comedian
29. A dystopian novel
30. A book with a blue cover
31. A book of poetry
32. The first book you see in a bookstore
33. A classic from the 20th century
34. A book from the library
35. An autobiography
36. A book about a road trip
37. A book about a culture you're unfamiliar with
38. A satirical book
39. A book that takes place on an island: A Year of Ravens by Various Authors (takes place in Roman Britain) 1/5/16
40. A book that's guaranteed to bring you joy

My next category is a book being made into a movie this year - I'm on the waiting list for Me before You, Girl on the Train and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Hoping I get one of them soon - I'll probably get all three in the same week!

I'm totally in for this. I don't record the books that I've read, and probably won't start, but I should hit about 100 by the end of the year.

I drive a large delivery truck in my current employment and thus listen to audiobooks for about 4-5hrs a day. I burn through about 2.5 books/week consistently.

One downside to this is that the spoken word is several times slower than the read word, thus it takes longer to complete these books then if I were read them. Of course, I can drive a 16,000lb truck simultaneously. Totally worth it.

Another downside, many of the books I'd prefer to listen too are not available as audio books yet. Also, much Non-Fiction is yet to make it to Audio books. Oh well!

I always read one book & listen to a different audiobook in the car. I've found that there is some material I enjoy listening to, but would never make it thru in a physical book. Listening to audiobooks has definitely expanded my horizons. I suppose this is in part due to the limited options for audio in my library system, so I mostly only hav choice from books I'd never read. Cool.

Hav currently resisted (always difficult at first) checking books out from the library, because I hav once again accumulated a stack of books on my shelf (yes, I read thru or flat out donated w/o bothering to read the entirety of my shelves last year and only kept approx 20?) . Many many of my "favs" were no longer favs or even tolerable & I only kept a small amount of my lit. Anyway, I hav aquired 16 "new" (not remotely new & of course free) books. Apparently  they're not too appealing, because I've barely been reading lately. We'll see how many I actually read.....

Which books do you find easier to listen to rather than read? I have a few nonfictions that I've been struggling through and am wondering if audio format would make things easier.

In any case, this thread is a reminder that I'm embarrassingly behind on my challenge. The massive read lists in this thread are some good motivation!

I've fallen a little behind schedule, but come the end of June I will have much more time to spend reading.
Having this goal has helped me set aside time just for reading. In the past I've used my downtime for TV/internet/reading (usually in that order), but I've definitely cut out a good amount of screen time by having a goal to reach towards. I've been really busy and haven't had much time to read recently, plus I haven't been completely sucked into any of the books I currently have so I've been a little less inclined to spend all day reading. At this rate I'm not gonna make 50 by the end of the year so I need to step it up!

How often do you get bored and quit a book? I find I do fairly often. Once I find an author I love (so so exciting every time this happens) I can't stop don't stop.

I hardly ever do. If I do abandon a book it's usually because the first chapter or few pages is unable to catch me. But I do read 2-6 books at the same time, and I will typically read 1/3 to 1/2 of the book, get caught in the "mid-book lull" and leave it for days or weeks (or months) until I read the rest in one go. So many books have 50-100 pages of what I read as pointless randomness in the middle. And a few of the many series caught by the triology-craze have a whole book of randomness. So series I abandon more often. Like I wish I quit The Hunger Games. Great first book. Should have left it there - the rest was random and unrewarding to me. Kept expecting a point that never came.

Some books grab me from page 1. Of course that's my preferred, but not too common. I usually give a boring by page 20, until page 50 to be sure.

About 10-20% of the time? I've definitely abandoned several books this year.

But the thing is, I think there's nothing wrong with that. I used to force myself to slog through books just for the sake of finishing them, but I've realized that's really dumb. The sooner I abandon a book that I've completely lost interest in, the sooner I can get to reading books that I am actually excited about.

Agree. Still have read thousands of books, so why bother.
The exception was an 86 page book recently. Yes 86 pages! And it wasn't a teen or children book. It became boring after page 5 or so, but I told myself to finish it because it was so brief. Wasn't worth the few minutes of my time.

"The Ocean at the End of the Lane" by Neil Gaiman.

It's one of the most original stories I have read in a long time.

i am really not able to get into any of the audiobooks ive made attempts at for a while now, so ive given up for now. im enjoying listening to music.
this has quite a bit to do with the fact that what is available in my library system is not my style, however certain audiobooks have got my attention and expanded my horizons which is positive. our system here is really not bad in terms of books- so much more than what is available for many of you, ive noted- and im sure the audiobook selection is more extensive for these same folks, but ours is pitiful, outdated, and no variation.
we have access to not just our county, but thru 'Link+' we can access books across all of california, including colleges! still, quite a few rare or older books(even only from the 1960's! or even from the 1990's!!!) are not available, obviously through lack of checkouts over time. this is a bummer. and some books are even not listed used on amazon, or maybe for some ridiculous price, due to their rarity.
anyway, rant over.
im now reading through my bookshelves again, as ive once again accumulated a couple dozen or more... last time i did really well, discarding many without even bothering to read- purged approx. 90% (excellent).
so, no library books for me for the time being. its amazing how many books seem appealing, then dont when it gets down to reading them down the road. in future, id better read these right away while they are still appealing!
