2015 Savings Rate
« on: April 30, 2015, 07:29:42 PM »
I know there was a 2014 Savings rate and Save 50% of my Take Home thread, I'm trying to leave this somewhat open ended.

I saved in the 65+% net range in the last six months of 2014, and hit up 74% in 2015 Q1. I'm trying to maintain 75% net for the rest of 2015. Seems a tall order with a few airplane trips coming up, but I'm hoping to do this without any cheats/strings attacked. No new credit card churning in 2015, but OK to use reward points from my existing credit cards (two - Chase and Citi Forward).

For the first 14 years out of school not only did I only save 10% a year but I left it in a spot where it only earned about 1-2% interest.

About this time last year I found MMM, increased savings to 55% and placed it in spots that make 7-22%.  (S and C funds  of TSP, VTSAX, mixture of  individual stocks based upon Monty Fool)
I'm aiming to retire in about eight years so a savings rate such as what you're doing is the goal, just difficult without some serious adjustments.

I'll wrap my brain around it tonight, there should be a way.

I am at 65% so far for 2015, once I start earning commission at the end of the year I am looking to bump that to 75%.

Travel hacking should make this easy since I will no longer have to pay for vacations.

We've been doing this for years. It's easy once you get going.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
