Title: 120 Day Fitness Challenge What you want to do be Accountable here!
Post by: soccerluvof4 on April 25, 2019, 04:43:54 AM
This is an Extension of the 10k Steps Challenge a day and there simply are no rules. Simply a place to be accountable to keep yourself moving and get some support along the way. While it begins May 1st you can start now to get in the habit of logging your goals and what you want to do and if you have a Fitbit or other trackers I encourage posting that as well. If its after May 1st and you want to join along your welcome to Join as well.

My goals are simple I want to get an average a minimum of 15k Steps a day. Lose 7lbs by September 1st (be 197) and lift at least 4x's a week. I am in the need of a double knee replacement so I work a lot around what hurts each day an have been so if you have issues work around and do what you can.
So if your a swimmer, runner, walker, biker, lifter , some or more of the above or just want to lose weight and so on put your goals down and get busy. I'll Start:

4/24- 23,337 Steps From 90 minutes on the Elliptical and lifting at the Y in which I did a 4 Exercise free weight circuit as I am just getting back into lifting of 1 chest, 1 Bicep, 1 Tricep and 1 shoulder exercise of 12-15 reps 3x's for each body part. When I got home I  then started to apply the 12 yards of Mulch I need to get down which added to my total steps.   Morning weight 204.4

I am in. Way too fat. Diet and exercise will solve that. Current weight 220.

I'm in...started today instead of May 1. My goals are to ease back into running after time off from injury and a series of respiratory illnesses. I signed up for a run group that start the first of June and end with a half marathon in October. September 1 will put me in the middle of prime long-run season. I'm going to leave that as my only goal...don't want to get too complicated. Starting today to get a bit of a head start before group runs begin.

Day 1: Run walk intervals for 30 minutes. Feels good to get moving again but it was hard (as expected).

Welcome aboard @Mongoose and @Blindsquirrel !

4/29- Weight 202.4 lost alot of water weight that was sticking with me
Workout / Steps 14,745. My goal was to lift yesterday but I did an Hour on the Elliptical and half hour of HITT Spin Class. I over did the spin class and was really really light headed afterwards so needed to back it down.  See what today brings.

Happy May!

4/29
203lbs
I did 80 minutes on the Elliptical and 20 minutes of weights. Next week is really going to be iffy as I am starting a cash job of doing 35 yards of mulch so I should get lots of steps but will see about working out part as thats a work out at my age as it is. But the weather here sucks so might not be able to do to much either and I do travel this weekend for Soccer.

It's May, so here I am. :)

My set of goals:

1. Average 13,353 steps per day. (Why this weird number? I calculated that to walk 2000 miles this year, I needed to walk 13,353 steps a day, which was a bit more than I had been averaging last year... so this is a nice gentle stretch goal.)
2. Do some sort of non-walking exercise 3 times a week for at least 20 minutes (hikes are included here).
3. Make some of that non-walking exercise gentle stretching so I can get back to being able to touch my toes without triggering whatever plantar fasciitis-y thing is going on with my foot.

Nice work on the step count. That must create a significant caloric deficit!

Blisters enrage me. I become a smol ball of anger and whining. I hope you are more steadfast, soccerluvof4.

19k steps yesterday because I did some elliptical time, plus walking the neighbor's dog in the morning and walking to a taqueria for a delicious super quesadilla dinner.

Lifted weights this morning -- leg day! My very favorite. \o/ I seem to be progressing on everything except squats right now.

A Q: For those who also lift weights... what's your favorite method for tracking your workouts? I find my phone + spreadsheet etc to be annoying to use, but I also don't reeeeally wanna be carrying a little notebook to the gym. (I should probably just carry a little notebook to the gym.)

You know when you start something and right away you regret it?!?!? that be me right about now! lol . The blister on my right heel is about the size of a silver dollar. Yesterday I switched back to shoes I am used to and put vasoline over it and a big square bandaid and really didnt feel to bad. Now my body thats another story. Sore as all hell but the cash will be nice is all I keep telling myself.

Anyhow I did another 5 hours of mulching yesterday pretty much in a steady moderate rain and ended up with-
23,245 steps of which 90% plus is from that. To @STEMorbust point the calorie deficit one would think two days in a row I'd lose an ounce at least but surer than shit I was 203.6 again this morning. Ughh.

Well I leave for Minnesota tonight so do i do another day of mulch (customer doesnt care how long it takes me) or take a day off and get a good workout in at the gym! that is the million dollar question. Kinda want to get this mulch job done and behind me but why rush it. I do have some other jobs I can take anytime this month but I really love being lazy too!

Got my new laptop up and running and will take with me so I will check in with my numbers over the weekend and see what i decided to do. Hopefully they have a gym at hotel so I can get some lifting in.

5/3- Sitting in a cabin half way to Minnesota for a Soccer weekend with my numbers. Again I ended up working on the mulch so these numbers are 90% from that but still steps and hard work. 22,970. Not sure what today will bring as we have to finish the drive and not sure when we will get to the hotel.

5/4 17,601 steps. No weight as I’m sitting in hotel lobby. But got 2 hour walk in. Today probably a off day I gotta rest back it’s still aching pretty good.

Height 5'11; down from 209 in early March to 197.4 this morning.  I turned 40 this year and would like to get back to my college weight around 180 and 12-13% BF.  We sold both our vehicles before moving to Europe a year ago and bought a diesel van once we arrived here.  My bike ride to work is 4.6 km each way and I do shift work so I can walk, run, and lift much of the day at work.

Welcome @DoNorth ! Good Luck in your goals!

5/5 was a down day for me because of travel and my back is still killing me. 5550 steps. Today I am going to give it a few others and either work on the mulch for my workout or try and get to the gym. The more I sit the worse it is but I shouldnt really push it either.

May 3 - 13k steps
May 4 - 11k steps
May 5 - 16k steps

Today is planned to be a gym day with some nice relaxing time on the elliptical with a podcast. I may test out bringing a small notebook with me for recording stuff.

5/6 I did pretty much nothing I had to try and rest my back for a day and see if it would make a difference. It did help some but I have to get back to my mulch job today no matter what.

Weight 204.6
Steps 522

Weekly report still not bad for 2 basically missed days.

16k steps yesterday with a very pleasant go on the elliptical.

I tried to go to the gym this morning for upper body day, got 5 sets in, and just quit -- I was way too tired and was lifting at like 75% of my usual (non-max!) lifting, yawning the whole while. Came home and had some tea and breakfast instead, and I'll either go again later (ugh the gym when it's busy) or do some yoga at home (may be more likely, I'm still yawning on my second pot of tea).

This is the first time in a really long time that I've wished I still had the old (more expensive) gym membership at a quieter gym -- I go to my local uni gym, where I get a Sweet Alumni Discount, but it's super busy and absolutely jam-packed full of students in the afternoons.

I need some accountability so I am in (a little late).
I want 12,500 + steps per day and to lose some weight.  29.7 BMI right now, would like to get to 28.5 in this challenge.
Steps log
5/1-13,307
5/2 - 9,042
5/3 - 18,350
5/4 - 17,931
5/5 - 9,502
5/6 - 15,068

Two of 6 below goal - will fix that this week.  Thanks for starting this thread!

5/7 -- 16k steps
5/8 -- 17k steps, including time spent on the elliptical

Still too dang tired for morning weightlifting. :( I've been crashing pretty hard at night. Not sure what's up, as I don't have any sort of cold symptoms and don't seem to be fending anything off, but it may just be an inexplicably tired week. I've been waking up about a half hour later than usual and spending time reading instead of weightlifting in the morning.

Could just be nothing. Gray clouds by where you live? we all go through times like that but try to push through when you can. For me if I had days where I could sleep in a bit I'd relish it! Body could just be tired.

5/9- Simply put more mulching but my son helped so only 13,680 steps. Thing is it just makes me to tired and takes to much of my day to do anything else and of course thought I was done yesterday be she wanted me now to do a another area so I am going back today to get it done. More cash on the bright side and I have my son to at least do the heavy lifting.
Weight 204.8. Creeping the wrong way but Mulching and working out are not the same thing. Plus I havent been eating as clean and its gonna be at least another 4 weeks of this so I have to 1 find more energy and do something at the gym or 2) which would be probably even better clean up my eating.

I have done that SO MANY TIMES to make a step count. It's clearly psychologically worth it for me, but I have no idea if that extra 5-20 minutes of pacing is actually worth anything health-wise...

18k steps yesterday plus a very lazy yoga session in my bedroom.

5/22-13,207 not much in the way of steps. My back was killing me. I really need to finish this job and get 2-3 days off so I can get past this thing but its a rock and a hard place because Its hard to finish it when I cant move efficiently. Going back today for hopefully a big chunk so I can be done tomorrow.
Weight was up to 205.4 because simply after working best i could yesterday i came home made dinner, binged ate and binged tv. That I have to stop there is no need.!!

soccerluvof4, I can't remember, doesn't this job have some intense physical labor? If so, extra food is pretty sensible... (though obviously if it made you feel crappy, less pleasant!).

5/21: 14k
5/22: 14k

My legs were so sore from Tuesday's workout that I just walked yesterday instead of doing a Serious Cardio session. This morning was upper body at the gym, which was generally satisfying if not quite where I want to be.

Yea its mulching, spring clean up, planting etc.. So yea I am not really worried about the calories i just want some real cardio to get the cardio up plus I miss the gym. I have about 2 hours today and then I am done with this job so I plan on working out with the holiday Sat, Sun and Monday. My next one is easy peasy just planting so I might go to the gym before and workout since its literally a couple blocks from the Y. Glad your getting your workouts in!! Nice job!

Yesterday I had 25,264 most of it was from working in the morning and then I took my son to soccer practice and walked till I got to 25k around the soccer field.

Well due to monsoon rains I got to the Y and did 90 minutes on the elliptical and then I said the hell with it I went and it took only about an hour and finished that job and that was 90% of my steps. Going to try and get to the Y today. I have 3 days off but 6 hours round-trip each day of traveling for State Cup as both the younger ones are participating in that.

Haven't posted...too busy to log on and no internet at the house...but I have been running. 1-2 times a week. I'm up to 30 minutes of 3 minutes jog and 2 minute walk intervals. Feeling good about progress. Run group meeting is tonight and then we start training next week. Half marathon in the fall. The biggest issues I'm having now is finding time and trail closures due to flooding. It's hard to squeeze in workouts when my favorite places are underwater. I prefer to run on the rails to trails areas as concrete and asphalt make my joints hurt. Hopefully our group leader will have new trails to show us to work around the water...or maybe the weather can settle down to a more reasonable amount of precipitation?

That's great, Mongoose! Yay for running! \o/ I hope your trails dry out soon; I feel much the same about running surfaces. (Is there a local track near you that you could use while it's wet out? Usually track surfaces are a little softer at least.)

Wow!  I haven't broken the 30k barrier yet.  But hit 20,000 again on 5/28

I broke the 35k barrier by moving. All that lugging boxes and packing and being on my feet for hours straight.

Totally not the recommended way to break said barrier.

Week 1 down: have actually jogged all my mileage plus put in two cross training sessions.

Low grade fever + stomach stuff is an excellent reason to take the day off. Sounds like a day for water and the RICE diet too... hope it goes away soon.

19k yesterday. Still recovering from the blood donation on Monday for sure -- I felt pretty tired this morning getting up to go walk the dog, and my calves were tight. (Not aided by the heat, either!)

Well that was a good day!! 19k . Sadly I have never given blood though having thought about it many times. I do need to do that.

Yesterday 6/12 I only had 3271 steps and I didnt weigh in this morning. My stomach was pretty bothersome so I called the nurse and she told me to not take pepto that I dont have the symtoms for that but to take Mylanta and that has helped quite a bit. Also to take Abreva for my lip not the orajel I was taking and that too was helping a bit. I have a history of heartburn for about 5 years and the last year take a 20mg tab of omeprazole which basically a version of pepicid that you can take on a regular basis vs just 14 days and havent had a problem since being on it. Well anyhow the doctor called me later in the day and said he would like to see me to make sure I dont have a stomach ulcer based on my symptoms. so we will see . Both the lip and the stomach have improved about 50% in last 24 hours but he said if there is improvement it could be just from masking it with the medication. So I am thinking if it goes completely away then for 24 hours if I dont take anything I might cancel appointment but will see. Probably should get checked out just to make sure not more to it regardless.

Congrats on you folks being more active! Is there room for another?

I started working out (again) in late May, and I set some goals to hit by Labor Day, so it looks like our time frames match up!

May 22: I was 228
June 9: I was 219

Goal is to hit 200 flat by Labor Day.  My strategy is not overly strenuous. I hit the gym for weights twice a week. I take a walk with the family twice a week. I limit diet cokes to like maybe 1 or 2 a week (I used to drink 2-3 a day), I drink a TON of water, I avoid alcohol and sweets, and I eat fewer calories period, focusing on high nutrient foods with no empty calories. I might also throw in at least a few days of 16:8 intermittent fasting here and there.

I used to try to focus on exercise, but I think the smarter way to focus is on caloric intake. I watched a youtube video breaking down how much easier it is to lower calories (than it is to count on burning calories to help you)

Basically, most of the benefits of a five mile run can be undone by 2 large slices of pizza.

We went on vacation so I have not tracked well.  Bad news: despite some great hikes in the PNW, most days were below my step goal.  Good news:  I didn't gain any weight!

Back at it Monday (baseball tournaments cramp my style)

I’m super blown away by all these step counts!

I hope you don’t mind a latecomer as I’m trying to get back into a workout routine again (lifting). After taking about 5mo off from even touching a barbell (due to pre and post-separation life craziness), I’d like to get back to lifting regularly, and numbers wise - by the end of December, I’d like to hit my maxes from last December: 280 squat, 278 deadlift (300 would be nicer!) 105 bench. I do have a coach and several other resources, but he’s coaching at a distance since my move; so having some additional accountability sounds like a good idea! I know my goals would go into the next challenge, but for the next two months, even just getting back into the habit would be a big step.

I lift 3-4x/week, and on my non-lifting days I’ve been doing the Zombies, Run! C25K. Losing weight is secondary, but if I drop into the mid 150s from the mid 160s that I’m at currently, that’d be fine.

Thank you very much! I’ll keep an eye out for the new thread.

Dang, that’s a lot of walking! Do you hike, walk pretty much everywhere, a lot of leisurely walks? Basically: what magic are you using for the step count? And ugh. Bloating. I wish I had a solution, but haven’t really found anything that works consistently.

@FemmeHawke I get most of my steps going for a 2 -2.5 hour walk in the morning or doing the Elliptical , things of that nature. During Soccer season when my kids have practice it usually goes up to over 25k because I will walk again during their practice.

I'm keeping up with my training schedule. We're up to 5 miles. I did switch from just run to run-with walk intervals. It's just too hot! And that includes me getting up at 5 am on run days to beat the sunrise temperature increase. I'm not loving getting up that early. Even with the "cooler" temperatures in the upper 60s to mid 70s I was having issues getting dizzy from heat which is why the walk intervals were added. Seems to let my temperature stay stable longer.

Today is supposed to be nice but heat indices are supposed to near 110 for the rest of the week. I may have to run indoors since it won't cool off much overnight either.

Continued heel troubles have my walking at an erratic pace -- some days are 16k plus, others are 9k or less. Still a perfectly respectable amount, but I'm guessing that the PT (whenever I see them) is going to order me to some amount of you-don't-get-to-walk rest. :(

Awesome weekly totals @soccerluvof4 !

This is my first summer of FIRE and I can't seem to stay in a daily routine.  Didn't make my goal most days last week except Tuessay when I committed to running.  Yesterday, ran, gardened and walked at soccer practice...got to a PR of 30,900 steps in one day!  Weight went down a little but I am thinking it's all water weight in the summer heat.

You've got this, PowerStache!

I just set up my first two PT appointments -- three and four weeks from now. Until I have PT advice, I'm planning to only walk if my foot actively feels good (no pain) and otherwise to seek out alternate exercise. I definitely have swelling in the Achilles tendon, and possibly some in the plantar fascia, so I need to be careful to do things that aren't loading the Achilles tendon at the very least.

I dislike lap swimming, so that one's out, and I'm wary of doing my usual weightlifting exercises (squatting/deadlifts/etc). Stationary bike is a nice possibility, as are some modified weightlifting exercises (more upper body and core work, etc). Modified yoga that doesn't have any of the forward folds and focuses on sitting positions might be nice too.

Any other ideas for good things that will use my body but not load the Achilles tendon much?

That sucks sorry to hear about that. I would do alot of machine lifting and mostly upper body as that wont bother your achilles at all other than moving along. But high reps low wait will get your heart rate up. Rowing should /might be ok as well.

I do like rowing a lot. That might be fun! If I do it right it shouldn't load that tendon very much at all.

Yeah. I might get back into my upper body lifting routine (maybe I could finally do a danged pull up?!).

This is making me more cheerful. Thanks!

@diapasoun  - I love the rowing machine. Hopefully it keeps working for you.

I am so impressed by @soccerluvof4 's ability to do an hour + on the elliptical.

Have been over my goal steps of 12,500 the rest of this week, mainly from walking and gardening in the early hours.  Today will be slightly under goal due to temps of 99 and heat index of 109 in the mid atlantic states.

@soccerluvof4  - what dedication to get up at 5 am!  Took the kid to summer conditioning camp on Tuesday so got in 20k steps.  Today I took the kids golfing on a 9 hole course...not as many steps as I was hoping for.

We leave on Friday for Jamaica so will not be updating.  Will need to get some walks on the beach in to make over for the food and drink indulgences that are going to be hard to keep under control.

@diapasoun  - Keeping a gym membership is a great way to keep your goals.
