Two 1098 forms
« on: February 09, 2016, 07:48:25 PM »
I usually easily do our taxes through H&R Block every year, but this year I've run into an issue that one of you may be able to help with.

We refinanced our home in Sept 15 and I'm assuming that's why we received two 1098 statements. We refinanced with our same lender, but I'm wondering how to input this info. On one form it shows our real estate taxes paid ($3522) and the amount of mortgage interest we paid ($3983). On another, it has our real estate taxes paid as $0, our mortgage interest as $6444 and mortgage insurance as $1635.

Should we go and have someone do our taxes? This seems simple, but I'm not sure what to do.

Input both of them into tax software if the relate to 2 different loans.

Thanks! Seemed easy enough, but I'm always so worried that I'll get a bill from the IRS several years down the road saying that I've done something wrong and they want their money NOW!
