Title: turbotax vs. free fillable forms
Post by: petergibbons on May 15, 2018, 04:48:44 PM
I always balk at paying the $70+ that turbotax wants to file my not that complicated federal return. In a couple of past years, I've figured out myself what I think I owe, cross-check this amount against what turbotax estimates that I owe, then file for free using Free Fillable Forms instead of paying Turbotax to file. This year is a bit more complicated as I can't figure out how turbotax is calculating the exact amount of my state income tax deduction. Anyone have any hacks for getting under the hood of how turbotax is calculation of itemized deductions? Also, and just out of curiousity, does anyone else employ the strategy I describe above to avoid paying turbotax?

Thanks
