Hi Mustachians!
I'm new around here. As I like to say, I've spent this decade (my 30s) fixing the mistakes of the last decade (my 20s). I've cleaned up my credit report save for two issues 1) high credit usage (working on it! on track to pay it all off by end of 2018) and 2) my only derogatory mark — a "public record" filed for a tax lien in 2013.
This only shows up on one of my three credit reports and the lien was never executed. The IRS threatened with a lien for unfiled taxes (I know, I know ... like I said, the mistakes of my 20's), I worked with them over a few months to get everything filed and have been on an auto-debit monthly payment plan ever since.
Does anyone know how long it takes a public record to fall off your credit report? Or, alternatively, how to go about having it removed?
I assume this type of record is hurting my credit score?
