Tax Escrow Distribution Dates - Schedule E write off
« on: February 01, 2019, 02:10:27 PM »
In the county I own a rental property the property tax installments are generally due/paid in January and July.

In 2018, my escrow account associated with my mortgage paid the first installment in January and the 2nd installment in July as expected.

However the county must have sent the January bills a few weeks earlier this year and my escrow account paid those taxes at the end of December 2018.

I received the 1098 from my lender and the taxes paid number on there only reflects the January & July payments.  However my mortgage statement and the county website shows an additional payment being made at the end of December.

Can I write off this additional tax installment payment on my Schedule E?

I realize if the payment doesn't go out early in December 2019, I'd then only be able to write off the July installment on my 2019 taxes, but I would like to take the extra deduction this year if possible.
