Simple clueless question
« on: February 13, 2016, 02:53:34 PM »
DW and I maxed our 403b's for 2015 - $18k for me and $24k for her (she's an oldie but a goodie). Can we add an IRA on top of that?  I know there is a phaseout AGI, but we may be under it for traditional IRA, and definitely for Roth IRA.

As long as you're under the Modified AGI limits and you have earned income then you certainly can!

Yes, you can contribute to an IRA as long as you have earned income past what you put in your 403(b) accounts. For a married couple, deductible traditional IRA contributions have a $98k MAGI limit (2015), Roth IRA contributions have a $183k MAGI limit, and non-deductible traditional IRA contributions can be done at any income level. This latter type is probably only a good idea if you plan to convert the balance to Roth soon (aka "backdoor Roth contributions").

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
