Received my 2024 Refund
« on: February 22, 2025, 07:47:13 AM »
My 2024 federal and state refunds were quite large this year due to the CTCA and EITC. I was keeping concern for them being cancelled by DOGE mostly under wraps, but now that they are in my bank account I feel like I can let go of that concern. (Though I am still concerned that DOGE will target people who received CTCA and EITC refunds).

I had also been reading that refunds from CTCA/EITC wouldn’t be sent until March. I see the Treasury says most early filers with these refunds wouldn’t receive checks until March 4 but some will start getting them now.

I got my refund. It is about a third of the 2025 budget I am trying to meet.

Congrats on a big refund! I'm curious, why would you be concerned that DOGE would (or could) go after you? They can't amend the Revenue Code.

Glad to hear you received your refund.  We filed ours a little bit ago, and have yet to receive it.  Would like to get it soon - I have read you want to file early this year because of the possible government shutdown affecting refunds.

This is the first time in many years we are receiving a major refund - we had significant overpayment throughout the year.... Will be correcting that next year, though it is hard to know what to put in with so much uncertainty about tax rates generally for next year.

Congrats!

My refund is scheduled to be deposited next week. If it gets deposited when it's scheduled to be deposited it will be 9 days from filing taxes to getting a refund, which is probably the fastest I've ever had my taxes accepted and refund sent.

Mine isn't very big though. It's basically a negligible amount of money, but at least I can check filing taxes off of my to do list.

They do seem to be able to stop sections of the executive branch from making legally required payments. And DOGE has a nonsensical understanding of waste and fraud which could easily include tax payments to poor people.

I'm still waiting for part of my refund... from Oct 2024.  I have to wait for K-1 forms that arrive in Sept/Oct, so I filed taxes then and was due a refund.  I split it between cash and treasury bonds, and the cash was deposited some time ago.  Still don't have the treasury bonds, and the IRS status still shows my refund is in progress.  Perhaps changing my international address confused them, causing the 5 month delay.

My federal refund took 21 days this year.  That was the longest wait I’ve ever had since I started e-filing.

Mine took 8 days this year, which is about normal.  I did go in and adjust withholdings to not get a refund next year and at the same time sent the "extra" amount to a separate bank account via a payroll allotment.  I'll still get the forced savings while not having to worry about a bunch of interns breaking a system written in a language that went out of fashion before they were born.

I filed Friday 2/14 and my federal tax refund was in my bank account yesterday, 2/24.

Very relieved, still concerned for others who may get caught in the agency upheaval.

Can I ask if anyone with deposits has health insurance through ACA (marketplace)? I filed on January 30 and still no refund. Our return is fairly simple, no dependents, 30k in retirement withdrawals (automatic 20% withheld, so that hurts), 6k in rental income, 1k in interest. In 35 years MFJ we have never had any sort of penalty or tax hiccup.

I've been trying to figure out what might be holding it up. Our tenant pays by Venmo but they did not issue a 1099; and we get a big healthcare subsidy. Haven't moved or changed banks or anything. Is anyone else waiting past the IRS's "within 21 days"?

I filed 2/4, refund was in my account 2/12.  I have ACA insurance.  Simple return with only W-2, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV for income this year.

Both state returns are hanging out in limbo, though...

Thanks! I'm in Florida, so that's one thing I don't have to worry about.

I was also worried about federal government dysfunction, so I wanted to get this done early.

I filed my taxes on February 19 and had my refund deposited on the 24th. That was quick. Whatever else Trump and Musk are breaking, they haven't broken this so far.
