gaaah taxes and remote working!
« on: March 06, 2017, 01:22:09 PM »
Any tax gurus on here?

I have one major turbo tax issue and one hmm? sort of question.

So onto the first question -  I have worked remotely for years but am trying to figure out if it is based on my employer's convenience since I now have an entire dedicated home office (worked from the kitchen table for years.) I basically said I was going to move for my DH's job and my employer said "keep working for me - you can work remotely." Does that count as my employer's convenience or my own?

And the other one- my office is based outside of DC and has always taken MD taxes out while I live in a different state. I usually get most of my MD taxes refunded and then pay my home state tax. This year Turbo tax is showing that we owe Thousands of dollars to MD. The only difference I can find in our taxes is that my DH's income (all home state based) has risen drastically this year. Could turbo tax be counting DH's income to what we owe to my employment state?

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
