Old IRA in Biotech - sell now or wait?
« on: April 07, 2017, 12:51:06 PM »
So back when I had no idea WTF I was doing, I bought some shares of FBIOX in my rollover IRA and I've had them for a few years. My cost basis was ~$20,000.

Oct 2012 - $5,000
Oct 2013 - $5,000
Nov 2014 - $10,000

The shares are now worth $26,300. Not the highest they've been, but I'm tired of watching it go up and down.

Should I sell now or wait? Flip a coin?

Have you considered exchanging them for low cost index funds such as VTSAX?

That's exactly what I'd like to do. I just don't know if I should sell and do it now...

From a fees standpoint alone, FBIOX is at .73% and VTSAX is .05%. VTSAX is almost 15 times less in fees.

Good point. I'm thinking now.

I suppose unless you have a crystal ball, it makes more sense to go with VTSAX (and Fidelity also offers similar index funds).

Just initiated the rollover. Thanks for the nudge :)

No problem, also congrats on making a decent chunk of money for the time you had them.

Post -> rollover time of 30 minutes, that's some pretty quick action. Good for you!
