Mortgage Company 1098 Problems - January Payment
« on: January 18, 2018, 01:51:59 PM »
I'm sure that I was like many people who prepaid their property taxes in 2017 to accelerate that deduction thanks to the new tax law.  I also made my January payment at the end of December as I anticipate my AGI to be lower in 2018.  The mortgage company says it "cleared" on January 2nd, 2018 and will not be including that interest in my 1098 - the payment was initiated on December 27th.

Here is my question - can I still claim that interest on my 2017 tax return even though it will not tie to the Form 1098?  Is there an explanation I can provide to the IRS?  I have used a free online filer in the past (Turbo Tax, CreditKarma, etc.) so I don't know if those kinds of one off attachments are possible.

Thanks!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
