I tried to be all bad-ass by starting up IRAs and doing my own taxes.  Made some progress, learned some stuff, but made a mistake, too.  I already filed my taxes, then learned that I could re-characterize $5500 in Roth IRA contributions to tIRA and not pay the tax (below MAGI limit for tIRA being deductible).  (thanks, Philociraptor!)

Can anyone help clarify the process to get some additional refund money?  I know I need to call Vanguard to recharacterize, but then what?  How do I file an amended return after re-characterization?  I used Tax Act for the initial filing.

Thanks, MDM, that helps immensely.  I could not find this from the Tax Act website, must have been a bit buried.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
