I'd like to piggyback off this topic, if I may, to ask a similar question.
I got married in early 2017, earning enough to be able to contribute fully to a Roth IRA but too much to be able to deduct any tIRA contributions. My wife is a full-time student, and since she doesn't work and is therefore not covered by a retirement plan at work, we contributed the max to her tIRA as it was allowed based on our combined income.
Except, it wasn't allowed! Oops, we forgot that she worked for a few weeks at the beginning of the year in a position that did offer a retirement plan. Now we get no tIRA deduction for her.
Is there any recommendation here to improve our return? Does the same advice from earlier in the thread of withdrawing the 2017 tIRA contribution apply to us as well?
