Federal E-file rejected
« on: February 16, 2021, 09:25:09 AM »
Anyone else get this?  I have used turbotax for the last...as long as I can remember.  It automatically fills out prior years information for me.  I went to file and it asked for last years AGI, our efile PIN, and our drivers license information.  I e-filed, and it was rejected saying either the AGI or the PIN is wrong, and it prompted me to recheck the AGI and refile.  The AGI was correct, so of course it was rejected again.

I have no idea what our efile PIN is as I don't remember ever making one, and I have no documentation, but turbotax knew it and filled it out for me, I'm assuming from the previous year.

I have printed my return out and mailed it in now.

Anyone else have issues efiling?

I got error messages a couple times too, and I think in our case it was the payroll tax deferral that was causing issues. We did finally have success.

I got rejected for e-file through H&R Block. It didn't give me a reason why, but I suspect it's because it was expecting me to check off on receiving both stimulus checks when I only claimed one. The second check arrived the next day, I fixed it, but it still won't accept. Customer service only said "wait a couple days and try again."

My return was also rejected twice using TaxSlayer. This is my first time using tax software (usually just go through the forms myself) and it's been very disappointing. If it continues to be an issue I am going to file a complaint with TaxSlayer and ask for a refund.

I use the Free Fillable Forms and have done so for years. It is some of the most user-unfriendly, archaic software I've ever encountered, sort of like if you put a caveman or woman in charge of developing the program.  Anyway, my return gets rejected at least once more often than not.  This year, it was rejected on the basis of incorrect AGI.  Now I had made an error last year and then filed an amended return.  I provided the correct AGI from the amended return, but nope, the IRS apparently wanted the initial incorrect amount, which does not seem logical to me, but when I provided that number, my return was accepted.
I feel very strongly that I should not have to pay for software or a service for filing our reasonably simple taxes, even though this sometimes feels like an exercise in self-punishment.

Yeah, they specifically want the original AGI, not the amended. I had to be careful of that the year after my own amended return.

Dad got rejected, but mine and kids were all accepted as e-file.  Used TurboTax Deluxe.

We keep our efile pin written down.  Turbo Tax pulls that, but I still double check with my paper copy.

Used FreeTaxUSA for the first time (and e-filed for the first time) and got rejected the 1st time even thought my AGI was correct (we had no PINs). However, FreeTaxUSA had a note that if you had made a mistake that required re-processing of your return last year, you need to enter $0 as your AGI. I had forgotten to include a form last year, so entered $0 and that did the trick.

Wow, so for anyone who messed up their filing last year, their super-secret magic number to get their return accepted is ...$0?!?! That seems like a *huge* security hole!

A big security hole is right. But maybe it's an O (Oh) or the 0 from the numpad vs. above the letters?!

I use Free File Fillable Forms every year and never have any problems. And it's free! They occasionally don't have forms ready when tax season opens, but they are usually added within a week or two.

I've had my return from Free File Fillable Forms rejected a few times in the past, but the email always says what part of the return triggered it, I double-check it, and sure enough I typed something in wrong! This year it went right through though.

We filed no problem and never have had a problem with Turbo Tax.
