Excel Household Goods Checklist in Excel?
« on: March 24, 2023, 03:02:16 PM »
We donated the entire contents of one of our rentals to qualified charities. We have CWAs from both charities. Their lists are somewhat vague, so we need to itemize in better detail for tax purposes. We have photos, and a general list by room. We were familiar with the contents of the house, so we can recreate with a solid degree of accuracy. What I'm looking for is some kind of Excel spreadsheet where I can list quantities of items and assign values. I know we will need to use IRS Form 8283, so I'm looking to create a clean Excel document to attach. Thanks!

P.S. I posted this in AAM, but it should have been here. Hope this switch works.

Perhaps one of household goods itemized deductions spreadsheet - Google Search?

Or copy/paste from The Salvation Army Thrift Stores | Donation Valuation Guide into a blank spreadsheet and edit from there?

Good luck!

If you open Excel all you need to do is put labels at the top of a few columns it the first row.  e.g.
ITEM    VALUE     DATE DONATED    RECIPIENT      NOTES

It's not that difficult.

Thanks for the degree of difficulty rating.

I tried both of those sources (as well as Goodwill and the IRS website) before I asked this community for help, but I so appreciate the responses and suggestions.

I was looking for comprehensive lists to make sure I hadn't forgotten anything substantial, and because I wanted to avoid typing all that info into a new spreadsheet.

At any rate, I made my own and it is done.

Now I have other fish to fry...

Thank you!

I found this to be very funny. Very funny indeed.  I am still chuckling.
