Estimated taxes forms - 1040 ES Forms?
« on: February 24, 2024, 08:36:46 AM »
This is the first year I've paid estimated taxes. I paid through the IRS Direct Pay site and my state's site (CA). I have the emails confirming the payments and know exactly when I paid them, but I have not gotten a physical 1040 ES form sent to me. Should I have one sent to me in the mail? I never got an email from the IRS either saying they were online somewhere either.

I started doing my taxes in turbotax this year and the section on estimated taxes just tells me to fill in the date of the payment and the amount - which I can do, but it feels so.... Informal? like there should be something more to verify that I really did make this payment rather than just take my word for it like charitable donations in taxes.

Will they actually send me a 1040 ES form? Or is it just up to me to remember exactly when I paid what? It will make me much more diligent in saving all my receipts in the future.

1040 ES is a form you send in when you send payment, not sent to you. This is how it works - you keep track, report it.

If you want to verify your records, you should be able to see payment history at the websites where you paid.

Actually when you're done in TurboTax - have a look at the 1040 packet you can download, and you'll likely see 4 1040 ES coupons ready to print and mail in (if you prefer that to what you're doing) for next year.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
