Do I need to amend my return? Box 14 W2c
« on: March 21, 2025, 07:44:07 AM »
Hey folks,

In DW's original W2, DW's employer marked 2 Box 14 withholdings:
FAMLI: 171
MAPFL: 68

We are in Colorado. We put both in the W2 slot for reporting, and then in the extra step in FreetaxUSA we declared 171 for FAMLI, presumably for Colorado taxes.

DW received a W2c yesterday because her employer realized we don't live in MA and pay into their FPL program and removed it from box 14. I created an amendment in FreetaxUSA and removed the 68 from Box 14, and nothing has changed as far as refunds go, but it is still a change.

Do I need to file this amendment?

I probably wouldn't bother, not sure what a tax pro would say, especially since it doesn't change any actual tax liability. Given the gutting of the IRS I think there is a near zero percent chance of any negative consequences. The worst might be the IRS asks for information in the mail and then you can send them what they want.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't had to file amendments before. While I'm sure it's straightforward and just click through, this one seems really in the "why bother" category.

I've filed the W2c with all of our other 2024 stuff, right on top. If somebody comes in with some compelling info, I'll go ahead and push it all through.

Thanks!
