10% bonus on HR block
« on: February 18, 2016, 10:50:21 AM »
This may be old news but -

I took advantage of the H&R Block 10% bonus offer.

The offer is 5% if using Free or Basic, 10% if using the more expensive products. I had investments, etc so had to use one of the more expensive packages.

I have the deductions maxed out, but still have too much withholding. My return was significant, $2500 of which I took in Amazon credit. The fee H&R price was $50, so net, I got paid $200 to do my taxes :)

Looking at it as an investment, not too many investments offer a guaranteed 10% return! It always bothers me Uncle Sam was sitting on my money instead of me... now I'm getting a nice rate of return on it.

good luck!

I did the same thing last year through TurboTax. I believe that Amazon gives them a 10% discount on gift cards and they pass it on to you. Some people worry about the third party that handles the exchange, but I didn't have any problems.

When calculating your bonus, remember that you could have gotten 3% cash back if you paid with the Amazon card or 5% cash back with the Sallie Mae card (I believe Discover had 10% promotion recently). So the actual return is lower, but still free money l if you have a big refund and buy a lot of stuff through Amazon.
