Title: Zenbanx Canada - Traveling and exchanging currencies just got easier
Post by: MrsStubble on June 16, 2015, 02:28:04 PM
As an ex-ING Direct US employee and dedicated saver, i'm posting this for all the Canadian travelers.   I had the joy of working with the CEO of this company (and pretty much half the employees) and I already know what kind of amazing bank-disrupting things he's capable of doing.  If you live in Canada and need to travel or transfer money between currencies, this may just be the best thing going.  $4.95 to convert any amount, so you can transfer money to family/friends or take money out with a debit card that work globally.  And there's interest... and if you have had an ING Direct US account in the past (before the buyout) you know how

They have a bonus going until June 30th to convert up to $250 from CA to US for free.

For US peeps like me.  This account will open in the US a little later this year (Dec 2015)   Going to make traveling so much easier and cheaper.

This is amazing. I have some $ locked in Canada after spending some time working up there, and I assumed it was going to cost me a huge amount to transfer it. The normal bank exchange rates are quite a bit lower than the actual exchange rate. Do you know what exchange rate they give?

I am not 100% sure, it actually looks like spot prices although i'd say to call to confirm that. The cost to convert is flat no matter what the amount, and there's interest earned (by currency) that you can choose to earn or not based on taxes.  That bonus for opening those is $1 US = $1CA for up to the 1st $250 dollars which is pretty cool.

I just took a quick look. They need a "selfie" of me for me to register? First time I've had to provide a photo for an account at a financial institution. What is that about?

In lieu of having a larger bunch of multi-factor authenication for login they will use your selfie as both a security device for you so you know you're logged into the right account, (like an old login image but more personal then picking a random dolphin or a basket or some weird crap. I remember ING Direct US had some really odd images.)
