Yoga
« on: March 02, 2013, 01:19:30 PM »
I can't believe I put off yoga for a whole year because it was too expensive.  I thought it "woudn't be the same" if I was at home versus being in a studio, albeit a beautiful hardwood-floor studio with the sun streaming in the big windows.  My achy body finally won the battle and I just put on an hour-long youtube video last week and went for it.  I know it's such a small thing, but it was such a mental hurdle to get over, I just had to share.  There!  100$ a month saved!  Easy!

Here is the Ashtanga Primary Series:

Good for you, I totally get it : )

I am a fitness DVD addict now - have been for years. THough I love getting out of the house to work out, the hours and the inconvenience, not to mention the price, are so not worth the cozy at-home cheap DVD option. I save a bunch of euros too - the only hard part is that I always seem to want new ones...but that's under control right now, let's say...

I really love doyogawithme.com because they make their own high quality and free videos. I also like that the have videos that focus on just certain areas, for example I love their ultimate shoulder sequence for my neck and shoulders since I have a lot of muscle knots in those areas.

Another good resource is your local community centers. They often offer free or inexpensive group fitness classes. I found out that my community center offers free weekly zumba classes! If you love zumba then you can find classes in your area here: http://www.zumba.com/en-US/parties/search/ Using this tool I found out that a church down the street from me also offers free zumba!

Another good source is yogatoday.com. They have a free class each week so you could try them out to mix it up a bit. I also came across free pod casts for yogajournal.com which have audio-guided classes. Happy practicing!

Yoga podcasts?!! I never even though to look for those! I try and take a yoga class at my office gym once a week, but I'm traveling so much now that I don't get to go regularly. This may be the perfect solution to getting my yoga fix while on the road for the next few months. (Well, while in my hotel room anyways.)

I swear I learn so much from this forum. It's awesome. Thanks for the new resources!

Sweet!  I'd like to go to a studio once to learn how poorly my form is... LOL
I need to check out the youtube stuff if it's that good.   I tried the P90x yoga and it nearly killed me.
Nevertheless, if I don't stretch for a day or two my back will go on strike so any cool alternatives are always welcome.

Check local library as well for DVDs. We have a free live class as well. Why not invite gals over and do it as a group at home?
