Net Worth Right at $400k
« on: October 12, 2019, 06:37:32 AM »
Just hit the $400k Net Worth mark with all my accounts (including real estate) this past week at age 27.  I use the Personal Capital dashboard to track everything and it was nice to see that $400k figure with my own eyes.

Can't really share this with anyone else, so figured I'd post it here to motivate any and all younger mustacians!

Wow.  Nowadays I'd say having a positive net worth, an emergency fund, a reasonably decent paying job and decent savings rate at 27 is a pretty good place to be, this extra $400k is crazy exceptional.

Congrats to you OP.  That is a terrific number - especially at your age.

Take a moment to be proud of yourself.  That baseline is setting you up so well for the future.

Congrats!  When I turned 27, I was 5 months from finishing graduate school with a net worth (once combined with my new wife's school debt) of -$70k.

Congrats! Sounds like you're crushing it!

I'm 28 and around $140k myself.

What is/was your main source of income to get you to 400k?
When did you start?

Yeah thats downright insane. Awesome job :).

Guessing you've just done everything really on point while maintaining a high savings rate from the very beginning? Thats only like what 5 years in the workforce? Or have you had some good real estate deals or something?

I'm at 165k at 29, and I think im a badass ;P, let alone 400k 27. Lets see, 2 years ago I was at like 50-60k.

Anyway nice ^_^!

Thanks for all of the kind words everyone!

A little more details:
-I was fortunate enough to get a job right out of college which I got paid OT (put in 60-70+ hour weeks).  I was single at the time and was living fairly frugally.  Within about 8 months I was able to pay off my $32k+ in Student Loans and be debt free.
-Since then, I no longer have the same position that pays OT, but each year I max out my 401k, Roth IRA and HSA accounts while setting aside savings for my "emergency fund".
-I bought a townhhouse when I was 25 and put 20% down (to avoid PMI) and am currently in the process of re-financing the mortgage before I plan to rent this property out.

My goal is to have a single family house with my fiance & dog, and have 2 rental properties by my 30th birthday!  We will see if I can get there.

I want to see $500k Net Worth in the next years, but with the market the way it is...who knows
