Wife and I reached the small mm
« on: May 27, 2016, 09:36:03 AM »
I joined the forum in August of 2015 and today due in large part to a market upswing which could reverse my wife I reached 1million net worth:

$1,010,230.00
FIRE date 45 months.  Current stats:
-Married with 3 kids (22,21,17) (5 more years of college payments & 12months of private school)
-retirement savings for me and wife (858k)
-home equity (88k)
-emergency fund (34k)
-2 owned Cars value (30k)

I think I'm going to celebrate this milestone by: poppin tags at goodwill and stocked up on some groceries at Aldi's.    Next milestone is 1MM in retirement funds

I feel pretty confident that I can have 1 million in retirement by FIRE date but paying off the mortgage seems an impossibility.

Congratulations!!! 1 million in net worth is quite an achievement! Keep working hard and I'm sure you can get the mortgage paid off before too long!

Nice work! Time to celebrate that victory. We're right behind you by about $80k. Very happy for you.

Nice!  We're only a few years behind you.

Isn't the the treat for becoming a millionaire to go out and buy a new Mercedes instead of hitting Aldi and the thrift store?

Welcome to the 7 figure club.  Don't it feel great?  We're still working but now we've got 1.4M friends working for us as well.  They are having babies every day.

Love this analogy!

We could be cohorts as our NW and age is very similar, but we will be sticking around to 2025 due to other incentive.

Good job and keep going.

Try not to sweat mortgage balances too much if the interest rate is low (<4%) and you have good LTV on it.  Its a bonus if the deduction helps you to drop to a lower tax bracket in the interim.

Update: Big MM reached: Retirement Accounts $948079 + Cash & investments $53078=$1,001,157
May go below with any down tick in the market today so wanted to brag now.

Congratulations! Feels good, huh? I reached that milestone in November. Like you, I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop, but for now it feels great to have that $1MM in retirement accounts + taxable investments + cash. I'm definitely happy about the increased compounding when things go well, and prepared to ride out a downturn whenever it comes.

Here's to ya!
