Vitamix For Zero Out of Pocket - For the Win
« on: March 24, 2014, 09:42:34 AM »
I'm so excited about this. We recently got a Vitamix from Costco and we were able to get it for $0 out of pocket. I am LOVING it.

I've been wanting one for, I'm not kidding, like a decade, but could never justify the cost. But a few weeks ago I heard from a friend that the Vitamix was on sale at Costco. We had just gotten our Costco Amex rebate and were headed that way, so we took a peek. The Vitamix was on sale for $375 - the lowest price I'd ever seen it.

We took our $199 rebate and brought it home - at that point it was still about $205 remaining out of pocket. But, now that we had the Vitamix, we no longer needed the Ninja, food processor or ice cream maker (all had been gifts). I never used the food processor because I like chopping fruits and vegetables by hand. The ice cream maker was cumbersome and rarely used. We did regularly use the Ninja, but it didn't make hot soups or ice cream. After a few days, I sold all of those items and a few other things we no longer needed and recouped the outstanding $205.

So not only did I get the Vitamix, which comes with a 7 year warranty and is amazing, but I now have more room in my kitchen.

Sha-wing!

What the hell is a vitamix?

. . . oh, a blender?  How is this blender better than my 50 year old Osterizer?

Nice! We have had one for about 11 years, I like to make soup in it, and smoothies the most

It can be used to make smoothies, ice cream, hot soup, flour from grain, knead bread dough, etc. I've never had an Osterizer, but not sure if it can do all of that or not.

Admittedly, it is fancy. Which is why I waited so long to get one. But, I have been using it at least 2-3 times per day and have made ice cream, smoothies, salad dressing, soup, juice-ish (technical term) and hot soup. Easy, quick and delicious. I'm sure I won't use it this much all the time, but we are transitioning to a plant based diet and this helps. Thanks to this community I've found a source for gluten free nuts, so I'll be making my own nut butter and will soon be attempting my own almond milk and rice/almond flours for baking.

Way to go!  We put off getting one for years, but did so about two years ago.  We use it 2-3 times a day to make vegetable smoothies.

Frozen chopped spinach, or mustard greens, or kale, frozen berries, half a banana, some canned beans, some walnuts, ground flaxseed.

The chopping improves the body's ability to absorb the nutrients, I am told.

Tremendously healthy and my bowel movements are green.

I was totally with you until the beans. What kind of beans? Does it alter the taste of the smoothie or do the berries mask it?

Canned red beans.  Alters the taste slightly, but I have no complaints.  YOu can try things and not repeat them if you don't like them.

Nicely done you will love the thing.  I have had a Blendtec for about two years now and it rocks.  I've got about 700 cycles on mine.  Nut butter, mayo, soup, smoothies, coconut butter, pâté... I could go on.  You'll find so many uses for it.

I would've given you mine.  It's just collecting dust in my pantry.

My grandmother gave it to me because it was collecting dust in her pantry.

Where'd she get it?  My mother gave it to her because it was collecting dust in her pantry.

I said this EXACT thing...for years, after my sister got one.  But then my blender started not doing so well, so I got one.

Oh my....I never looked back.  I heart my Vitamix so much.  Almost as much as my Omega juicer.

Nice job! I love our vitamix (bought refurbished). I use it at least 3x per day. We ran out of almond butter today so I used it to make homemade almond butter out of the costco bag of raw almonds we had in the pantry. Then I used the almond butter to make shakes for my boys and their friends.

Oh, and we ran out of almond milk this week too so I used the vitamix to make homemade hemp milk using the costco hemp seeds we had in the pantry.

My vitamix saved me an early trip to the market this week! :) Enjoy your new investment.

I was always impressed by the Vitamix demos at Costco, but turned off by the price. I received a Nutribullet ($75 at Costco) for Christmas and I think it works 90% as well for smoothies (I blend 50% greens with 50% fruits).

If you want to get rid of it, I can even send you a shipping label. :)  I have been wanting one, my Cuisinart just isn't getting it done.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
