Winter Biking
« on: February 05, 2015, 04:09:52 PM »
I've wanted to start biking in winter since I started reading this blog. I finally ran out of excuses this year, bought a good quality used MB, and starting biking to work. I've had a few hiccups along the way this year, but yesterday I finally did it:

I rode 6 kilometres to work and back on snow and ice covered roads in -20C (-4f) weather. It was fucking great.

Looking forward to more.

Awesome! I havent driven to work since October! Welcome to the club!

I find it especially gratifying on cold/rainy days for some reason :-)

I wish I was this positive about winter biking - I get near death experience every day going to work and back, I hate the icey roads with deep tracks and loose snow on top.

I thank for that we have only gotten -14C and the winter will soon be over ;)

Thanks! And yes, there is something deeply satisfying about biking home in the cold rain while my coworkers drive by. It's like I've achieved something most would never dream of, but it feels natural for me.

Awesome!  The comments and looks you get from people are priceless!

It's pretty easy for me.  If it's cold and raining, a lot of people who would bike/take the bus take their cars, so traffic is worse than usual, so the advantages of the bicycle are better. :)

Though this winter in Seattle, "cold" is like 35 degrees. :/  I miss actual winters...

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
