My last two statements from Time Warner were $10 higher than the previous, and I had just negotiated a new rate on my internet. In our area Time Warner is a bit of a monopolist, so no other option if I want internet (and that is the only service I have from them).
I called time warner and told them of the change, and they informed me that I had upgraged to "extreme." This seems so unlike me (not really too extreme) that I asked if they have a record of when I requested this upgrade--to which they did not. I asked to remove (Extreme) and for the rate to be returned to my prior level, and for a credit in the amount I have overpaid. They agreed to all of these, and then informed me that my new rate was $49.00, which was 2 dollars higher than I was paying previously. I informed the service representative that "I want my two dollars."
She asked me if I was seriously asking for the 2 dollars back, and I told her she should be lucky I am not charging her for the time it is taking for them to rectify an error they made. I spent another hour on the phone (out of principal) to get this rate down, and was successful--I even received a lower rate--of 3 additional dollars off.
So, was this a waste of time? I received a credit of $25 dollars, and an additional $5 reduction for 12 months--$85 for an hour--did not feel worth it at the time, but I don't make $85 an hour...
