time warner smackdown
« on: July 13, 2014, 08:00:33 PM »
My last two statements from Time Warner were $10 higher than the previous, and I had just negotiated a new rate on my internet. In our area Time Warner is a bit of a monopolist, so no other option if I want internet (and that is the only service I have from them).

I called time warner and told them of the change, and they informed me that I had upgraged to "extreme." This seems so unlike me (not really too extreme) that I asked if they have a record of when I requested this upgrade--to which they did not. I asked to remove (Extreme) and for the rate to be returned to my prior level, and for a credit in the amount I have overpaid. They agreed to all of these, and then informed me that my new rate was $49.00, which was 2 dollars higher than I was paying previously. I informed the service representative that "I want my two dollars."

She asked me if I was seriously asking for the 2 dollars back, and I told her she should be lucky I am not charging her for the time it is taking for them to rectify an error they made. I spent another hour on the phone (out of principal) to get this rate down, and was successful--I even received a lower rate--of 3 additional dollars off.

So, was this a waste of time? I received a credit of $25 dollars, and an additional $5 reduction for 12 months--$85 for an hour--did not feel worth it at the time, but I don't make $85 an hour...

GAH!  TW and rate hikes.  Don't get me started.  Great job sticking up for yourself.

Gotta love that logic. "Are you seriously asking for $2.00 back that we're stealing from you? Come on, it's not that much money - even though it is your money..."

My fios bill went up $2 as well, and I was willing to spend the hour on the phone with them to get it back down, but it was my last month on the contract and negotiated a new one (a nightmare!) and so not worth my time for the principle of $2.  If it was a part of the new contract I'd call them.

I've spent an hour on the phone with comcast and blue cross to be removed from their marketing mailing lists.  Switching between people to get it taken care of (is it really that rare!?) It made me feel good that it cost them probably a hundred dollars each to be removed, and was just me on a speaker repeating myself while working.

I made it clear that I will never use their services (I work for a competing blue cross company and get basically free health insurance, and comcast sends about 3 mailers a week, ridiculous)

I am going to smack Cox in Arizona - cutting the cords on my AZ house.

And then smack Comcast. Currently paying $114 for a corporate rental unit I have (for the tenants - not me). Bye bye CrumbCast. Bye bye Cox Suc...s.

I have a deal with DirecTV for less than $20 per TV (no internet) as I have so many units.

$2 from 300 million people is $600 million. Every month...

Time Warner always responds well to dropping my cost to latest promotional rate just by calling customer service and uttering the magic words "do I need to drop your service and come back to get the rate advertised on your website or can you just give that to me now".

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
