Nice work!  You will be amazed at how that number starts to snowball.  I clicked over in April 2016 and now we are around 1.23 only 7 months later.

Congratulations rdy4er... whether it holds or not I should imagine it's still a nice place to be.

Wow... so you've managed to accumulate almost 1/3 of my FIRE amount in about 9 months!

Congrats!

I'm hoping to reach 400k at the end of this year and 500k at the end of next year. Second comma is still a long way for me but I always love to hear from those who did it!

Nice! I'm hoping to reach 500k soon. The 2nd comma seems so far away, but my wife finishes school in May, so she'll go from -$50k/year to +$50k/year which will help!

Last evening, sitting on the couch, my husband got up to get something from the kitchen.  He asked if I wanted anything while he was up.  I said "yup, a million bucks!".  He looked at me and answered.....'but we already have that'.  I started laughing and said it feels strange to actually be able to say that.

So congrats on the 2nd comma from someone who recently got there too !!!!

As a household, we've hit the milestone, but I suppose if we we're truly 'millionaires', the first digit would have to be crooked.

Its a fun game though for now.  Next up is $1M ignoring personal and investment property.  This stuff does truly become arbitrary.  After that, maybe 'crooked' will be the goal.  I do honestly hope we lose the 'goals' sooner rather than later.

Any potential ideas how you are going to handle it? How much additional money / years worked are you planning on accumulating for health care?

Kind of wait and see at this point, work for insurance is one option, or or working an extra 2 or 3 years

Congrats!  Isn't it an awesome feeling!   We clicked over in the middle of the year.  We both made it through big layoffs this year and still have at least a few more years to go until I can get a handle on college and healthcare costs, but I did a big happy dance when it happened.

Just to add on to the potentially arbitrary way of thinking about being "truly millionaires", my goal is to have our nest egg be equivalent to $1,000,000 in 1996 dollars (when "The Millionaire Next Door" was published).

I love this definition - it came up the other day in a discussion about the relatively large number of millionaires in congress.

$1.54 million in 2016 dollars, for those who don't want to google for an inflation calculator. :)

Great book if you (not Slow2FIRE, the general you) haven't read it, btw.  The PDF is floating around for free.

Thank you 'csprof' for pointing out the copy of The Millionaire Next Door book that is available for free "floating" around.  I always think I would like to read it when I see it mentioned someplace, but have never taken the time to read it.  So now I have it bookmarked and will get started.

Congratulations!!!  Just to play devil's advocate, a dollar can buy much cooler stuff in tins if areas than in 1996.  30 bucks a month will get you infinity better phone service and internet, for example.  I just typed this post on a cell phone that costs less than my parents land line did in 96.  So I'd say a million in 2016 is still pretty amazing in different ways, even if inflation says it is equivalent to 1.5if we were to go back to 96.

Re: above, my bold. That's very true, but now there are waaaay more "necessities" that didn't exist back then,  primarily electronic devices. The skyrocketing costs of medical care since '96 eat up a lot of those other savings.

That's true to.  Some costs are way higher than in 1996.  Although even with that, there's lots of improving in the quality of health care, so it's not like you are getting the same level care for a much higher price.  I'd much rather get treated for many procedures now as opposed to twenty years ago.  But yeah, we definitely pay for it, don't we:)

I truly believe it's only the invested assets you could sell and trade for food make up your number of commas. Still a ways to go for us, although if you look at our property assessment that skyrocketed 29% this past year, I've got an excel spreadsheet with two commas that we unfortunately can't eat.  They do keep the rain off really well though!

We hit 1MM in NW late last year. Still waiting for 1MM in investable assets though (currently sitting at 775k). Hopefully by mid 2018.

Current net worth is just over $900K with investable assets at ~ $820K.  Not quite there yet, but getting close.

Nice work!  You will be amazed at how that number starts to snowball.  I clicked over in April 2016 and now we are around 1.23 only 7 months later.

2016 was an astonishing year for my wealth accrual as well.  I managed to save (£110k) and invest (16.8% return) my way to an additional £272k.  Now at £1,127k and FI.  The financial pace actually caught me out and I've only just become emotionally ready to FIRE so plans now being enacted.

Welcome aboard the two comma club.   Seems a little unreal at times.  I actually forget at times.  Then you hear someone's story about trying to get a car loan or finance a home purchase.  Then reality hits and you remember you have no loans, you have 7 figures of investment working for you and not against you.  Then you thank your younger self for making good life choices.

Amen to this! Our charitable giving has increased a lot since FI and RE (for me), but I never even think about how I'm going to pay for something any more. If we need it, we buy it. Though it's often via CL or eBay or Nextdoor...Old habits die hard, I guess.

DH and I went to an RV show recently. The right we liked best is 150k! It's small and they only make 65 a year. We could "afford" it new, but oh, hell no! DH has already seen two used ones on the internet. We're in no rush, though. We can wait a few years for the price of used ones to drop even more.

Congrats!

Between 401k's, IRA's, and our home equity, we *might* get to $100k at the end of next year, which will put us at slightly less than 1x our combined income before both of us are 30. That is the goal anyways.

Im curious how many of you double commas change your asset allocation to reduce risk once you're there.

Two years ago I was 70/30 but now closer to 80/20 and am having headspace trouble selling equity to buy fixed income.  Instead, I'm buying bonds with new cash to try to get back down to 70/30. However, equity goes up faster than I can buy bonds.

Since we're both still working were about 90/10  the 10 is cash/money market/checking.   Majority is Vanguard Index funds.  Do have REIT, International and some individual stocks.  May ease some into bonds when headed into FIRE.  Working is all the hedge we need right now.

We're still working for another 4 years so sticking with 100% equity.  As we approach retirement I'm going to start putting money into bonds to aim around 80% equity/ 15% bonds/ 5% cash.

No, it's a Unity by Leisure, I think. I'll check whilst I'm googling Advanced RV. We don't want more than a 24' Class B or B+. Thanks, I think.

Oops! The model is the Serenity. As in, we liked the Unity (less expensive, but still crazy) until we saw the Serenity. It's smaller, and costs significantly more.  Crazy money. Off to check out AdvancedRV. Maybe someone should just facepunch us now.
