Hi all! I'm Jeff, I'll be 37 in June, and I've been trying to get out of DoD work for most of my adult life.
Here are three good-news stories to start off the year:
1) I doubled my TSP contributions to near max. Actually will go to max soon, now that I've observed the effect on net pay (less than expected).
2) The last 5 miles of my commute just became bikeable and I rode today! It will probably never be safe to ride the whole 10; in my part of AL, we barely have shoulders, let alone bike lanes, but this is a great start. And the daily car commute won't last long anyway, because, best of all:
3) I should be ready to quit my government job and transition to casual self-employment by summertime. This is not quite FIRE, but it represents the first step toward doing what I want when I want, and things I learned here helped move it forward. Between my wife's job, my ANG drill pay, two rental properties, and a moderate level of real estate work, we will not only be paying the bills but still investing heavily.
Thanks MMM!
