I have allergies and so I used to use a lot of tissues. In fact, I used one large box of Kleenex per week on average! Not only was that a constant drain on my finances, but it resulted in a lot of trash. Most people here know that handkerchiefs are a suitable replacement for disposable tissues, but I believe I have found something even better! I simply cut up any old and unwearable t-shirts into squares, and use those. The interlock knit used in T-shirt fabric does not unravel, so there's no need to seam the edges. Plus, t-shirt fabric is much softer and more absorbent than handkerchiefs. I take one of these "handkerchiefs" out of my sock drawer every morning, and I feel comfortable using the same one all day (most days). I wash these with my regular laundry, and they are still good as new after 5 years of use! Thus I estimate they have saved me $520 since I began using them, and that doesn't even include investment gains or the cost of extra trash bags! All from $0 investment and about 10 minutes of time.
