Student Loans Eliminated
« on: December 03, 2013, 08:17:02 AM »
December 1st paid/wrote my last check on student loans.  In 2013 paid $23,333 (37% of our income), since Jan 2011 $42,970 total. I tackled this monster and avoided paying 13,344 future interest payments (15 year planned payoff period originally). And now for 2014 I am planning a 24% savings rate (on 1 income currently). And all this while owning 2 houses (trying to rent 1 out), a horse, 2 dogs, and a recent move across the country.

Just paid off mine last fall. What a good feeling. It's this generation's equivalent of a mortgage burning party!

Is it lame I actually want to throw a party when I finish mine?

Huzzah!

When I paid off my student loans last year, I celebrated by buying a pretty cake and smashing my face in it.

I was alone, so that was weird maybe, but I took some pictures!

Horse=Money Pit. You're telling me!  But it is something that makes the wife extremely happy. She is actually good enough that she could be a trainer. My goal is to get her to do it as a hobby/part time job so that I can deduct some expenses on my taxes.

Congrats!  I am JEALOUS!  On track to eliminate mine in the next 4.5 years (maybe earlier if I go full Mustachian).  Just cannot wait until that day -- will celebrate in some appropriate fashion.

Nikki, that's hilarious!

Congrats! That must be such a great feeling to be free from student loans!

I despise mine. But at 2.9%, mine are at the bottom of my "hit list", lol.

Way to be a badass, sibamor!

Nikki - now I have the perfect way to celebrate my own loan payoff! Cake in face. Winning.

I threw a party when I paid off my student loans a couple of years ago. I think it is a great cause for celebration! Celebrate whichever way feels best to you. I do love the face in cake way, but a party was what felt right to me at the time.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
