Splurged on Valentine's day for spouse and she is thrilled!
« on: February 14, 2022, 05:28:23 PM »
So we are adopting a more frugal lifestyle.  Well, since today is Valentine's day, I splurged and made my wife very happy.  She is German, and it has been two years since she has been back to Germany.  She *LOVES* German breakfast rolls, or brötchen.  So I stopped at Lidle's on the way home from work and brought her a brötchen, which she ate for dinner.  It was .59 cents.  She was literally super happy.

I call this a Mustachian victory!

She read this post after I wrote it and is laughing with me, and agreed with it 100% lol.
Edit: she has not been able to buy/have these brötchen daily as we don't have a Lidle's where we live….she joined me today out of town where I am working.

Love the splurge! What a thoughtful thing to do for her.

We lived in Germany 14 years ago, and our kids still miss the Broetchen. It's probably just as well for my waistline that the closest Lidl is a solid 20 minute drive away--far enough to discourage impromptu trips! I also appreciate their Laugenbroetchen.

Just realized it’s been 14 years since I last lived in Germany. Yikes.

When I find myself missing the bread, I try to remember how much I disliked Bauerbrot normally. Helps remember the bad parts also. But yeah, tossing a few Eurocents down and walking away with a lovely Broetchen (or two) to munch on while walking from the Bahnhof…so great.

Late to the party, but congrats. We did the same - went to a little French bistro, spent about $200, and since it was a 5:30 reservation we weren't running on fumes at the end of the night.
