Is this for real?
It's real, and fairly unbelievable on just about all points from birth to death; mostly because as you hear about it, you think
how have I never heard of this guy? When I started writing the biography in 2019 I thought it would take a year to get through the 1st draft. I didn't know his life was basically an incredible adventure story from the time his mother died when he was 3 until he left the White House at 73. He had a father, but Curtis and his sister were the 2nd of 3 families he'd abandoned, leading Charles to take in his youngest half-sister when her mother died. This was Dolly, for whom (and I swear this is true) the phrase
"hello, Dolly!" comes from when Teddy Roosevelt's daughter, Alice, said it to her during a feud the latter had started during a slow news cycle right before the Great Depression.
