I must be doing something right...
« on: September 19, 2013, 08:29:22 PM »
So, I've been hesitant to sell our second car. I've been riding my bike everywhere, and one day it suddenly occurred to me that I couldn't remember the last time I've driven my car. So I go out to the garage, and there are spider webs all around the rear of the car (like from the bumper to the ground.) So, I think, ok, I guess it's time to list this thing on craigslist. So grab the keys, turn it, and... Nothing. it has to have been a good three or four months since I've driven. I never even considered the fact that the car might sit so long that the battery would go dead. Crazy. So anyways, thats my little story. :)

Get that thing running and sell it!
Good for you on weaning yourself off the second car. Do you think your fitness level has increased since you've been biking more?

The battery probably just needs a charge...don't rush out to buy a new one since they are up around $80-100 now. :/

I did charge the battery overnight and it started right up. I pulled it out of the garage, took some pictures, and it's up on craigslist! I do think my fitness level has increased, although there was a period of about three weeks where our city was directly downwind from a huge forest fire in CA, and the entire city was completely blanketed in thick smoke, so I literally couldn't ride. However, even with that once in a lifetime event, I still managed not to drive the second car. I had my wife take me to work, etc. But it did set me back on the fitness level. It's amazing how quickly your muscles deteriorate when you stop riding and don't use them daily.

Consider giving it a great wash and detailing, and taking fantastic photos in natural light,  as high definition as possible. GREAT pictures can easily be the difference between selling above market value, or sitting on craigslist for a while and not getting top dollar. Browse through listings of similiar cars, see which ones jump out, it's not always the best car with the lowest mileage at the best price that jumps out. Photos are what sell items on the internet!

Amen to that. Lots of nice clear pictures of a clean car will always draw in buyers. And when they show up make sure it's clean too, it's easy to walk away from a dirty car, but not a clean, nice smelling one.
